That reminds me...why is Granzort considered the sequel to Keith Courage In Alpha Zones? The games are NOTHING like each other. Sure, Granzort features a mech-like character who wields a sword...but he also wields guns and whatnot too. Also, in Granzort, if you get hit once, you die...Keith Courage had a killer liferbar that was hard to deplete unless you were up against some of the more powerful bosses (like the one in level 4 or the final boss in particular). The only similarities between the two games are the mech concept and the company who produced the games...the games are otherwise nothing like each other in any other way and it's a tremendous stretch to call Granzort a sequel to Keith Courage...just as it's still a stretch to call Super Mario Bros 2 (the US one, not the Japanese one which actually WAS a sequel) a real sequel to SMB.

It does look similar as far as console designs go. If you replaced the CD door on the RX with a motorized drive, it'd be the PS3. The 2 look closer to each other than the uniquely similar TG-16 & Supergrafx.

It took the industry damn near 20 years to catch up to the PC Engine's compact is better-design, except for the PS3 which looks more like a Duo RX than any other previous console, except that it's even bigger.\

I guess that Sony thought that everyone liked the XBox because it was friggin huge.

Software formats are finally catching up as well with small flatter carts/cards that are more similar to HuCards than big bulky cartridges.

The GBA Micro system itself is between the size of a Genesis and SNES cart.

Another recent console design seemingly ripped from NEC/Hudson is the GBA SP. You can also say that it doesn't look similar at all, but really, no other 2 systems look as alike.

And it sounds like we're finally getting back to console back-up for save files(Revo & 360).  Yet another feature I was enjoying a good decade and a half ago.

I *think* all of these games (Keith Courage, Granzort, an NES and even a GB game as well... see this link) were all based off-of a popular Japanese anime.  So, in a loose sense, all of these games are related.  Beyond that, I'm not sure of any similarities (i.e. developers, designers).

famicom:
Majin Eiyuuden Wataru Gaiden

Granzort strips away the "overworld RPG" stages and is more "serious" (aesthetically, atmospherically) than Keith Courage.  I agree, it's a very loose connection, but I can see it.  VERY LOOSE :)

For one I think it should only be for US released games, japanese games would just be too hard.  Also I was doing a little checking around and seeing if I could find a resource that listed games by the year of their release, but I can't seem to find anything, lots of sites show the release dates of all games but there's no way to filter a search by year so you'd have to go through every single game in their database one by one.

Oh yeah, I was only thinking about U.S. releases as well.  And you're right about the databases available... PCECP is simply awesome for allowing you to filter searches with precision.  I'm suprised folks haven't tried to do similar databases for the other consoles.  Even a non-html-based interface (i.e. an MS Access file that you'd download and use locally) would be kool. I wonder if some of the NES "collectors" have a something like that... or even an Excel spreadsheet would be great. Anything that would allow us to sort the complete library of games.

You know actually I think honestgamers.com has a way to search by year, at least I got the NES section to do it.  I believe I can do it for all systems also, I'll check it out a little more.

It's actually even smaller.  I was at E3 last week and couldn't believe just how tiny that thing is.  It's more like the size of an iPod mini.  Maybe even smaller.  It's a slick little machine.

It's interesting to hear current gaming talk on these boards.  Very interesting...
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.
