Ok guys I got to say Spriggan is more than just one hell of a game. It's the best shooter I have ever played. The level of detail in the backgrounds is astonishing! In the first level you will spot soldiers running around on the ground as you fly over them. In stage three your ship will actually fly up a waterfall while shooting monster-fish-things that leap out of the falls. The power-ups, like Blazing Lazers, are somewhat confusing to learn. Thankfully, if you let the game idol through the title screen a tutorial will play explaining the various combinations of weapon upgrades. And man, are they ever intense! I think my favorite one so far is the fireballs that spread out and away from your ship(or mech actually). The difficulty is way up there with R-type and Blazing Lazers. I have only managed to make it part of the way through the second level before giving up. Once my skills increase I'll post again and give you my thoughts.

Maybe it's just me, but I find R-Type and Blazing Lazers are in whole different classes in terms of difficulty.

Yeah, I played through Blazing Lazers for the first time in years about a year ago and never lost my shields. R-Type of course, is R-Type.

Spriggan is definitely a great shooter, the first level alone has arguably the best execution of a great concept in a vert shooter.

I haven't even been able to beat Blazing Lazers yet  However, I have only had my Turbografx-CD for a little over a month now. Have faith in me :D

Yeah, especially when all the soldiers on the ground merge inside of the stage 2 boss =P~ That experience alone sealed my love for NEC's consoles.

You won't be the least dissapointed. In either of them. Spriggan is a little hard to come by, especially a stateside copy(I got lucky :)) but Military Madness is a cheap and easy find. You can get one CIB for relatively cheap(I am sure you know all this after all I am the newb here.)

I'm not sure why it was so expensive. You can get Nexzr for relatively cheap now. It's just a sweet shooter. It belongs in an arcade kind of shooter. Luckily it has an "arcade mode" that makes a great game even better. Nexzr, for me, was the deal breaker after years of putting off getting a Duo. I saw that sucker on Youtube and that was it. Love at first sight.

I find Orange and Green my preferred weapon combination in Spriggan most of the time, a nice wide spread that protects you from behind a little.

Nexzr is about 10 times harder than Spriggan so good luck if you get that.

Orange and green? I'll remember that. I also like one yellow and two green combo. It'll cut a giant swath straight ahead of the ship. Most enemies are annihilated before they even enter the screen!
