Well now, lets take a look at my eBay account and see what my seller history...

the seller history of one of your accounts.

Sparky, there are people that choose to speak up and there are people that choose to remain silent.

if any of you are reading this, speak up - my beef is with resellers, not fellow forum members.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with Roy trying to make as much money as he can off his loose one.

There is something wrong with it when he got it off of one of us for far less than its epay value. Consider the following:

There is a village. You live in this village. people grow stuff, raise animals, make tools, etc. they trade amongst themselves; because it's in their best interest for the village to thrive, they sell their goods for less than they would in the big city market.

Then some kid comes along, buys a bunch of stuff from his neighbors so he can 'have a feast', but then runs off to the big city market to make big bucks off their stuff. He comes back with bags of money, and repeats the cycle. Soon, all the villagers have to go to the big city market, or charge big city prices themselves. There is no more advantage to living in the village; soon, they'll migrate to the big city, and the village will just be a bunch of rotten shacks where a community once lived.

I don't want that to happen here.

OMG you caught me!!!!  I MUST have multiple eBay accounts,

it's trivial to create them. Considering that you've already lied to us, why should we assume you're honest?

Roy, I warned you about this!

Listen, anytime there is something Turbo or PCE related that is selling for big bucks, there is ALWAYS massive complaining and bitching from people on this site. I've gotten my share of flack for the same time of thing. This is a great site, and I can certainly understand people's anger at certain games being crazy expensive. But, it's just the way it is. These things are collectibles now and a lot of them can go for big bucks. It's a pity not every Turbo fan can afford a Magical Chase, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Roy trying to make as much money as he can off his loose one. Sometimes that is the only way to expand your collection and get new games.

Geddon- the situation that went down with you (to which- the big bully that I am, came out in defense of you https://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4864.15) doesn't apply here.  The situation with you was mostly Sign of Zeta getting in your face about an item that he wouldn't even consider buying to begin with- and your prices seemed fair- at least to a good many members.  Secondly- it's not merely about who can or who can't afford a Magical Chase (I CAN- even at Roy's prices) -- but it's about setting ridiculous prices for this game- which will make this game harder and harder for ANYONE to find at a decent price.  We're dealing with a reseller here- one who had help from the community a number of times- one who even got his system initially for like ten bucks with games or whatever- one who knows the delight in finding something cheap- but has no intention of helping anyone else out- just in lining his pockets and getting his pristine collection.  He has his Magical Chase listed on his trade thread while at the same time he clandestinely has it listed on Ebay for a gouged price- was making buddy buddy on this thread which is about- lo and behold- an overpriced Magical Chase auction.  He has fibbed as to his intentions- has contradicted himself on his opinion of overpricing (as pointed out by Necro) - has claimed that I am jealous of him and his holy collection, and really has nothing to say in his own defense other than some nonsense about war drums and hey I'm just trying to turn a profit and see how dumb people are.  Geddon- forget not that this is first and foremost a community- not a TG buyers and sellers market populated by resellers and price gougers.

hmm...11 replies while I've been typing this.  I'm just going to post it and hope it's still valid.
If it sells for $400 then thats what the market says it's worth.

Even without BIN, things generally sell on ebay for a little more than they're worth because one has to outbid everyone else on the planet and all of the resellers.  We all have different views on what's fair, but it has always struck me as lame to to find a good deal and then set a new higher price.  The Best Offer is a sort of nice gesture but this is not technically an auction and I don't see this as different than sellers like GameSquad.

Personally, there have been a couple of times I've decided to part with things that I got a good deal on and I've felt pretty awkward setting a price.  What I usually do is a ten day auction, start it at a buck and make sure I do a damn good job of getting every key word possible in the item listing.  Doing this gives everybody a chance to get involved, as opposed to just the handful of high budget bidders, which creates a frenzy that rockets the price up in the last few hours.  Well-listed auctions with nice pictures, a good description and a low starting point do surprisingly well and no one can be accused of price gouging.  (After I got the U.S. version of Terraforming, I sold my PCE copy I bought for $40 and watched is go from $0.99 to $129).

Anyway, Roy got the loose version first, so I can see why he's parting with it. Hoping to trade it for boxes is a long shot, but makes sense in that those are all he needs for his collection (being open to some boxes + cash would probably increase his chances).

As far as the four hundred dollars goes, people tend to reach a consensus on prices after hanging around here for a year or two and I've seen lots of newcomers show up on the boards with prices in their heads that freak people out (myself included).  Roy's still fairly new around here and is trying to decide what to do with a game that he got for a good deal but could probably get a bundle for on ebay.  Without having spent the last five years hanging out with us bitching about scumbags like Bullseye, a high BIN price with the Best Offer option probably seemed like a fair compromise.  Again, it's not what I would do, but I'm trying to play devil's advocate and put myself in his shoes (sorry to keep talking about you in the third person, Roy.)  Sinistron and other have some good points, but Roy has made some good contributions on the boards and shouldn't be demonized.

OK, that's my two cents.  And hey, please watch the F-Bombs and potty mouthing!  Everyone!  Thanks.

People here have taken whatever they wanted from what they have read and just ran with it.  There are a couple of people that know what the truth is.  There are also a few monkeys running around throwing poo.  Do they know the full story?  Have they bothered to try and find out.  Or is what you really see here people just throwing stones?
Noone is trying to ask me any reasoning on anything I have done.  Read it all yourself Sparky, people all over me.

So what part of the story are we missing?  Though you've berated others for similar behavior, it's abundantly clear that you're not above selling for massive profits and at the expense of members of the gaming community (if you buy something at an honest price and resell it for profit, then you're depriving others from buying it at the better price).

I don't have a closed mind and this is an honest question, so please don't dismiss it out of hand.  You've chosen to pick up the cross of martyrdom, so convince me that I'm wrong.

I've gotten my share of flack for the same time of thing. This is a great site, and I can certainly understand people's anger at certain games being crazy expensive. But, it's just the way it is.

We rarely bitch about things selling for what they're worth, but rather when someone is asking (or sometimes receiving) far more than the normal value for the given item.  The problem doesn't lie in the value of Magical Chase, but rather in Roy lying about his intentions and taking away others' chance at getting the game for an honest price.

And had he stated that he wanted to make as much money as possible, far fewer people would care.  Alas, he did not; instead he stated that he'd try to help out the community and offer it here first, which he most certainly did not do.  In this instance, Roy has irrefutably been both a liar and a hypocrite.

Ya know Roy you already had a Magical Chase and then bought another.  Now you're selling it at some crazy price.  Why the hell did you want another to begin with?  If you have the money to buy all these Magical Chase games then why do you need to resell it so high.  Why not start the bid low and let people fight over it.  Then set a reserve if you want.  Rather than slamming a buy it now and hoping some (probably a reseller that doesn't play games) buys it for that insane price.

He started with a loosey-goosey, bought another one with a manual, and is now selling the first copy.  There's nothing wrong with trading up.

Thats totally correct.  I bought a loose one and the same seller messaged me again saying he had one with a manual..  Which I bought for the manual.  I took the card in the best shape for myself and am getting rid of the other.
All is well. :)

Perhaps I jumped in too soon. I didn't realize that Roy had gotten a favorable price on the loose cart from a forum member. That being the case, yes, it does kind of suck that it is up on ebay now, rather than a similarly favorable price being offered to another forum member in need.

So please modify my response accordingly. :)

He didn't get the cart from a forum member- he was directed by a forum member where to find one...

Directed where to find one?  Someone mentioning digitpress as a site to check into isn't quite a reference of where to buy one...  Might as well have said "hey check ebay".  Its not like a member here said "hey ask this specific guy"

But yes, the site was recommended to me, but not any specific person.

Edited for a late post.

So now two people have posted in a positive nature as to me not being some type of monster.  Maybe the whole site doesn't support me, but some do...  I would like to thank the people going against the opinions of the angry mob against me.  It takes some balls to stand up and not just run with the crowd.  Thanks guys

I'm sure it's a bummer to feel like you lost a chance at a rarity like MC, and I can't defend what Roy decided to do with his extra MC, but to jump to the conclusion that he's a scam artist, 'reseller', running multiple eBay accounts, or even close to the same level as that crazy bitch who threw a cat in the oven, is ridiculous IMO. Some of us only collect, some of us only play, but 90% of us probably fall in the middle somewhere. Roy's obviously a collector first, and until you see all his stuff show up on eBay, it's pretty hard to argue the scammer/reseller angle.

I mean, some kid gets caught shoplifting from Wal-Mart, do you automatically assume he punches babies and smokes crack also?

If I had ANY intentions of getting a US Magical Chase someday, maybe it'd bother me more. But really, I've bought NES lots to get a handful of games that I wanted, then eBay'd the rest. And I've traded stuff I had for stuff I wanted more. I don't think that makes me a reseller, and definitely not a scammer.

Or a baby puncher.
