SOLD - FS/FT: Modded/Customized NES
« on: June 28, 2009, 05:46:00 AM »
The Mario NES Package is sold  :D Please contact me if you're interested in having any custom designs done. Thanks for all the comments and kind words.

RG

Up for grabs is a modded/customized NES system package. I made this one awhile back, and I plan on doing a whole series of these with different 8 bit NES characters. I'm currently working on a Simon Belmont (from Castlevania 1) and a Mega Man one as well.

Here are the special features of the system:
- A "window" / case mod of 8-Bit Super Mario from SMB 1 that lights up red whenever the console is turned on.
- Blue power LED.
- Lockout disabled.
- I also installed a brand new 72 pin connector some time ago. Plays games like new.

Also included:
- 2 modded NES standard controllers with the Nintendo logo, the A button, and the B button backlit red whenever the system is powered on.
- AV cable
- AC adapter

Here are some photos:

After calculating up my costs and labor, I'm asking $200 shipped OBO for this package. In between planning and the actual work I easily put in at least 10-15 hours just for the Mario case work. So I feel this is a fair rate.

I might trade for something pretty rare or interesting, or large lots of more common items, but I'm really much more interested in selling at the moment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Several people have asked, and YES I am doing custom orders . For a design that's roughly the complexity of this Mario it's $100. For anything more complex it will go up from there.

Thanks for looking!

This is SICK!

I saw these pics on your gametz.com account and thought to myself *man this guy is really good* then I thought to myself *I could be this good!* lol....

So anyways.....Being that the going price for a Boxed NES in pretty good condition is anywhere from $80 to $100. Sometimes lower, like the one I found in San Anto for $65 boxed *MINT*......I would wager to say, and this is just throwing numbers outthere, that:

Console & Hookups w/ Modded Controller - $75
Console & Hookups w/ Reg Controller - $65
Console & Hookups only - $60
Send in your system to get it done - $45 ?????

That seems fair to me!

Now my next question is would you be willing to take a CUSTOM ORDER? Im thinking Crystalis (or Zelda) would be a kickass cut out! with Purple LED or Blue LED! Crystalis in my mind is one of the best Old School RPG's even topping Zelda!

If you would how much would you charge? I seem to have already put my figures up there but who knows they may not match what your looking to get.

Override - Thanks, I try  :D I was actually editing the topic when you posted, and have now placed a shipped price.

A couple of things here:

Yep, I'm open to and already working on some custom orders. If you send in a system it would be around $100 for a design similar to the Mario, and the price goes up from there for more complex designs. If you're interested just let me know what pose you want the character in, or what design you're looking for.

I know everyone would like them to be super cheap, but these really take a lot of time. In between planning and the actual work I'm easily putting in over 10 hours of work. So, I'm probably making like $8 an hour  :x I think I'll add that to my post so people realize that

I agree about Crystalis! I got that one way back in the day and have always enjoyed it.

Red Ghost,

Im glad to see you agree with me on crystalis! I will deff send in a system sometime when I get the money! I will prolly buy a spare console only thats in good condition to send in. I didnt think it would take that long to carve out that mario....Seems like you used a stencil type cut out patter or something and just went to town! Are you hand cutting it or using a dremel or something? Are the edges smoothed out or jagged? and if they are smoothed out can you see scratches aroung the edge where you buffed it smooth? Im curiously asking questions hope you dont mind! $100 seems a little high but when you put your figures into it then it all comes together.....So in that mindframe it doesnt seem to expensive! Atleast if the system dies you always will have the shell to swap out with and its a HUGE selling point Im sure for those that dont mind haveing a modded system!

Thanks for the info tho Red and cant wait to see more pics of others yoru doing!

Well I figured I'd set out and find a couple pics of crystalis that I think would be cool to get put into the system!

On the way I found this commercial from way back when! Its very retro and for its time I sure it gave many kids across the US a hard on for the game!

Ofcourse all these would be Im sure very difficult.....but it would be worth all the effort IMO!

Heres a couple of what I think would be cool:

The stance hes in while powering up:

NES Name:

I assume the GBC "Remake":

AND Ofcourse for the Jap Lovers the Jap Version of the Game Name!

Oh man that Crystalis commercial is so dated! Looking at that it's not surprising that a lot of people never played it back in the day. I really love the game but that commercial is just awful to watch now

Yeah, the Mario design was my 1st one of these so it really took quite awhile to plan/figure everything out. Trying to smooth out the edges takes forever too. So that's where a lot of the time goes. I feel that my newer ones will go faster, but they're still time consuming, and if you mess up...well...that's it for that case.

I do all the work by hand. Filing tools and a high speed rotary. That's it. Considering the edges are cut by hand I think they pretty nice. It's not like a precise laser cut that a machine could give you though, I'm not trying to say that. This one is probably a little rougher then my future ones will be, but from the photos I think you can see it looks pretty nice. Especially at night/when the leds are at their prime it looks really fun!

Let me know if you want a Crystalis one anytime. I'll probably do one eventually either way since I like the game so much as well  :D

Red,

I used to work in aviation as a sheet metal mechanic! I built an airplane by the name of a Mooney. Here is another one for the paint designs they have (some of them).

For any matter, when cutting sheetmetal we had tools that we used to form the edges of them and in a sense take the "Burs" or "Rough edges" away. I dont know if these tools would come in handy but I can get you some links to them. I still have all my tools I used when working there and if anything I could ship you the two that I think would work really well! Altho I would like to get them back when your done and if you decide you like them you can buy you a set!

For the mean time here are some links:
Deburring Tool #1

Edge Deburrring Tool #2

This tool is more of what I am talking about....The finger gaurd on it can be popped off by rocking it back and forth until the spot welds break...therefor making much more manuvarable!

Wow, building airplanes? That's intense

Thanks for the links to the tools. I'll have to think about if those could be applied here. My concern is that they might be too big  #-o Good things to know about.

No problem about the links man! If those dont work Im sure there is something out there that can be used to help make smoothing the edges much easier and better!

You could always use a dremel with some very very fine scotch brite pads....The blue ones would prolly make it shine! Not sure on that tho since its plastic vs aluminum.
