Another Dracula X thread!
« on: June 10, 2005, 05:33:16 AM »
I finally got my MINTY MINT copy of Dracula X [with spine and reg. card] in the mail today!!! I'm stuck at work all day as it sits on my desk and calls to me! After years of playing my crappy CD-R of it, I'm excited to get home and pop in the real thing. [I never did finish it, the CD-R would crap out on my Duo a lot of times] So, just had to vent about it....to people who know what the hell I'm talking about. Very excited!

I hit up someone after their ebay auction ended with no bidders and offered him $115 shipped. And the puppy is mint. I'm very pleased.

You guys love Dracula X so much, and I  like it too,but it seems nowhere near as much as you guys.Dont get me wrong,I think its a great Castlevania game overall, but to me the best one was the X68000 game.Second up is Haunted Castle, the original, and third is Super Castlevania 4.All these Castlevania games, besides the Nes games have the original play aspects and feel all intact and unmessed with.Catlevania 3 onto Drac X and up to SOTN just seemed to bring about alot of change in the feel of the games.
I just cant justify myself spending 100+ bucks on Dracula X.I have never felt in my life that it holds that kind of worth. My friend in Conway sold a Valkry Profile new sealed on ebay to get his Dracula X complete mint,I think the only reason he spent the 150 that he did was because he looked at it like a even trade for the Valkry Profile psx game. The only game I have ever spent more then a 100 bucks on was a King of Fighters 96 AES cart, import. If people would stop being so willing to spend the cash, the price would drop on drac x,but everyone jumps on those wonderful Buy it Now auctions for the 150 bucks, and you wonder how people like Bullseye stay around to haunt us???

I like the game as well, but I also don't believe it's quite worth the price.  I'm a big fan of the Castlevania series and finally caved after many years and just picked it up for $100 just to have it in the collection.  I never managed to catch a deal for a better price, as people continue to pay these high prices for the game...  Case in point here.  :)

OK, I have to say this first and foremost. I have NEVER played the game. But, as soon as I find a copy floating around for like $120-$130 (maybe $150) price range I am gonna snag it. Weather it is worth that price or not, while questionable, is a mute point because thats what it cost (I wouldn't pay $190-$200 for it). But, to be honest, I don't think games are worth that price, but to contradict myself, I will pay it occasionally.

I mean the market fluxes up and down, but thats pretty much the going rate for some of the more rare titles. I mean I don't like the gas prices being high but I wanna get around I pay it. Doesn't matter weather the trip was worth it, I pay the price....and thats the cost of playing great games, for a great system....atleast you didnt pay 200 dollars for the same fighting game over and over again just because its a Neo Geo game...   Sorry Neo Geo fans :D

That must suck starring at a copy of Dracula X at work all day and not being able to play it.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

For those of you who don't think Drac X is worth it at the 'collector's' price, I'm kinda in the same boat with most games.

But with PCE games, I was importing them all for between $100 - $150 back in the day, including Dracula X and I try to just look at every PCE game for less than that today as a bargain.

Too bad most of the hardware hasn't come down as much as most of the games.

IMO Dracula X isn't that rare at all.  Of course it's still selling > $100 even today as far as I can tell.  It's a damn good game.  Probably one of the few games that have gameplay and great presentation to back up the "collector" price.

However, back in '97 I sold a used Dracula X for $35.  Great condition minus spine.  I knew the value of the game back then (hasn't changed much since then either) but I personally thought that selling it for $100 or more was just ridiculous.  Maybe $50 or $60 tops.  That's just me.

I doubt I'll find it for that cheap ever again.  Out of all the times I went to Japan, the cheapest I've ever seen Dracula X (except for the $35 one) was for ~$85.  Not worth it IMO, yet that seems cheap to me.

Anybody ever see DracX go for less than $100 within say... the last 5 or 6 years?

It has sold for less than $100 (80-90 range). No flaws, though maybe not always including the spine card.

Great find, I have had mine since 1994 and it is still my all-time favorite game.

Hehe, I haven't seen that "codename" in ages.  I could have sworn there was a trick in DracX to get above 100%.  Some kind of bug that just reported the percentage wrong.  I also vaguely remember some other trick that you can do at the drawbridge before you walk into the castle.  All I remember is you do something... then walk into the castle and instead of being inside like normal, you'd appear behind the wall (outside).  You couldn't do anything but walk around that part of the stage.  The only way out was to reset the game.

The only problem with all this is that I can't remember for the life of me if these tricks were real or I just read it somewhere or what.  I tried to look them up in some old magazines I have, but didn't find anything.  I think my mind is playing tricks on me instead.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?  It's probably all in my imagination...
