Question concerning airboxes
« on: August 31, 2009, 07:39:13 PM »
Hey guys.  I'm aiming for a complete US Turbo collection, and would like to know which games came in airboxes (or the outer sleeve, or anything else besides the jewel case).  Did CD games come in airboxes as well?  I just want to get the most complete versions of the games.  Thanks!

Up until the Duo launch CD games came in the same boxes/packaging as Turbochips. There are a few CD2 games (Buster Bros & Splash Lake) which released after that that did not have boxes, but some Working Designs games have cardboard sleeves (Exile WP & Vasteel).

There isn't any kind of easy rule to follow that covers all games released within North America. If you're not familiar enough with the games and are an extreme collector, it's best to research on a game by game basis if you want everything completely complete.

As Black Tiger noted, almost all HuCards and CD-ROM2 games came in cardboard boxes (excepting Buster Bros., Splash Lake, the sleeved Vasteel, and the TG-CD v2.0 System Card), and all Super CD-ROM2 games lacked cardboard boxes (excepting the sleeve for Exile:WP).  Furthermore, not all HuCard games came in jewel cases; click here for a list of caseless games.

Thanks for the info guys, it's very helpful.  I have a couple other related questions:

1) Was Keith Courage ever released with an airbox?  I assume it was never sold in retail outlets since it was the pack-in, but I can't for the life of me remember if it had a box or not.

2) Did any PC-Engine games have airboxes or anything notweworthy besides the jewel case and spinecard?

Thanks again.

Nope, I don't believe it ever had a box.  Good catch.

Some of 'em came in a box when packaged with other goodies, such as Forgotten Worlds packed with a Avenue Pad 3, 3x3 Eyes packed with a VHS tape, and surely a few others.  Besides these few titles, hundreds of other games came with posters, stickers, or other fun stuff folded up inside the jewel case (also true of some US releases).
