New PC Engine reviews and more...
« on: September 13, 2009, 04:03:51 PM »
I've just published a new update to my site and added the following reviews:
PC Engine : Dekoboko Densetsu, Exile II, Motoroader MC.
Super Famicom : Ashita No Joe, G.O.D, Goof Troop, Melfand Stories, Pipe Dream, Spark World, Kigurumi Daibouken.
I've also a new article about Bandai's Kasetto Sentai and some new video game illustrations (including the Duo Bot!)

Please let me know what you think :)

On a different note I'm not sure if I'll be able to spend as much time on the site as before.  It's a sort of dilemma for me, the site's traffic has been going down for over a year - is it related to a lack of interest in these old games or just me who needs to advertise the site more? I'm not sure. But I have a lot of other things going on which generates more interest than Video Game Den. But don't worry, the site will be online for a long time and I will update it from time to time - probably at a higher frequency but with less content...

Well I certainly like the site, and if you're going to remove it, give us advance warning so I can try and download the reviews to look at offline  :)

The DuoBot is pretty freakin' cool; though not overtly Duo-esque, it's still made of 100% win.

Unfortunately, the western TG-16 / PCE audience remains super-small, even though it is, arguably, much more well-known and popular today than ever before (I think Wii's VC has helped keep the TG-16 on the periphery of mainstream magazines and websites).

That said, most people are more interested in PCE as it relates to popular series (i.e. Castlevania) and not the PCE itself, per se. This is always a challenge: how do we maintain the interest of folks who only want to find out about Rondo of Blood and not Valis 3, which is a poor man's Castlevania?

So, even if your site was promoted heavily, only the most curious geeks would stay to explore all the neat stuff you have :)

I say, take a break. You know you'll eventually return to the Video Game Den when the time is right :)

Yep, Ive said it before, for most people the pc engine is a devise that allows them to play Rondo of Blood and nothing more, they will say that the PCE sucks with the exception of that one game with out playing any other game....literally zero games.

I visit your site twice a month lkermel, i like checking out some of the more obscure SFC games you review.

You're totally right about that guys, I feel that the PC Engine popularity went up a couple of years ago because of the VC but, maybe it's me, but I think it's been going down... this is a shame but totally understandable. Did we just witness the last "popular" breath of these old systems ? Let's hope not...

I really appreciate your feedback, you've all always been really supportive about the site. But VGDen is not going down, far from it. Esteban, I think you're right on ! I just need to take a break. My only problem currently is that I have tons of projects going at the same time so I had to reorganized my time and priorities. And I feel that some of my other projects (graphic novel, illustrations) need more attention. So don't worry, VGDen is not going away and I'll update it from time to time. By the way, as a 'gift' to the community, I'm about to remove all the watermarks  :D

I'm also glad you like the Duo-bot. It's not overtly Duo-esque as Necromancer mentioned but I wanted to keep the illustration fun to look at, even for people who don't know about the Duo System - the feature that surprises people the most are the rainbow-sabers, but I had to have them in there, CD Rom Rom PAWAAA !  ;)
