Sound cutting out on CD games
« on: December 14, 2009, 08:55:02 AM »
I have recently gotten a Supergrafx with CD-Rom 2 and a Turbo Duo and I've run into a very odd issue.

whenever I try to play Strider or (Castlevania) Dracula X Rondo of blood the Sound cuts out during the cinema's I hear like 1 note/line then bam gone.  During the game play there is music, sound effects and everything.  And all of my HU card games work perfectly with the sound as well.

I tested the discs on my PC and the audio is there and it works fine using Magic Engine but on the original Hardware it fails.

Also for some reason my Supergrafx never shows an Arcade card screen when I put in the Arcade Card Pro.  should I get/use a Arcade Card Duo for the Supergrafx?  Is there someplace I can send one or both off to be fixed?

Note 1: I have not tried Strider on the Duo since I do not have the Arcade Card Duo and a converter yet.
Note 2: (Castlevania) Dracula X rondo of blood has no sound on the Duo and the Supergrafx.

Thanks!

Are you using original discs?  Your troubles could be attributed to improper rips or bad burns.

Also for some reason my Supergrafx never shows an Arcade card screen when I put in the Arcade Card Pro.

The Arcade Card doesn't have a unique BIOS screen; it looks like the Super CD screen.  If it isn't showing any BIOS screen, then check to make sure that you have the SuperGrafx set to PCE mode.

should I get/use a Arcade Card Duo for the Supergrafx?

No.  The Pro version has the extra memory required to work with your OG CD-ROM2 setup.  If you had a Super CD-ROM2 add-on, a Duo version would suffice, though the Pro would also work.

The games are originals.  and I guess I should have clarified I have the Super CD-Rom2 the one that does not need the RAU-30 to hook up to the Supergrafx

Well, unless the discs are in tough shape, I don't know what your problem could be.  I've never heard of only cinemas cutting out, but it seems doubtful that it's a hardware issue when the same troubles are occurring with both a Duo and a SuperCD.  Besides, if it was a hardware (laser or ADPCM) issue, you'd be missing some tunes and/or sound effects during the game as well.  Are these the only two games that mess up?

As Necro already indicated, the answer is "yes."

The only difference is that the LED display on the North American unit displays "PC", whilst the Japanese model displays "Pīshī".
