Duo R/RX, SGX+CDrom2, to replace my Turboduo
« on: January 08, 2010, 01:49:12 AM »
Hey Everyone

New to the forum.  I got my TG16 in 1989 when I was 15 years old.  Upgraded to a TurboDuo 1998 (when TZD was still sellng them new)

I am giving my duo to my cousin who has also had his TG16 since 89 as a birthday gift.

I want to upgrade to either a Duo-R or Duo-RX (what's the difference, or reliablility factor?)

I was also considering going all out & getting a Super Grafx & CD-Rom 2 unit.  Just for cool-factor for the collection.

I have seen guys who offer mods that allow the Japanese systems run Turbo Grafx usa Hu Cards.

Any advice on what's the best bet, what's the most reliable, best setup before I put my hard earned money on ebay?

The Duo-R and Duo-RX are pretty much identical in terms of functionality and reliability, though you'll pay more for the RX and its included 6-button controller (which most people hate anyway).  A SuperGrafx and original CD unit would be quite a bit more expensive and cumbersome, so you'll have to decide if you really want to play those five extra games; another option is a SuperGrafx with a SuperCD add-on, which is a bit more svelte and won't require fiddling with system cards as often, as the 3.0 card is built-in (though you'd still need an Arcade Card for those titles).
