Exile 2 help
« on: July 08, 2005, 10:32:43 AM »
i made it through the tower of lost souls on to the ark and to the boss/genie (the Guardian of the Master's Gate, as he calls himself).  Anyone have any advice to beat this guy?  i've tried fighting him with both Sadler and Rumi and he trashed right through both of them.  I can stay alive for a while but my attacks do so little damage i don't see how i'll ever finish off his life bar.
Any advice would be great.
(Has anyone here FINISHED this game??)

Also, has anyone made it to level 17?  is it worth it?  i really don't want to spend hours upon hours getting another 35,000 XP

Finally, one thing that sucks....

SPOILER!

When Lawrence goes away do to his business and meets his evil creator (i assume this thing to be the final boss being on the cover and all) and has to fight him, I actually figured out the pattern and spent about 10 minutes or more very slowly taking the boss's life meter all the way down.
It should have been end of game right there, but rather than rewarding my tenacity and innovation the game wouldn't let me kill the thing!  so i had to let the boss kill Lawrence and go on into the tower with the rest of the party....*sigh*....twelve year old video games...

Its been a while but I used the big slow guy, whatever his name is.  And I think I played around a bit mixing health potions to get a super health increase or it completely refills your hp.  I think it tells you mixing potions can have strange effects, sometimes it will completely wipe out your health or do nothing at all.

I just remembered I've got the whole sequence on tape!

Use the big guy and take 2 peyote's at a time to restore hp, the end boss battle was pathetic but nicely done cinemas, though

the endings of Vasteel, JB Harold and YS1+2 are also on the tape, I thought i had more but must have taped over them.
I'm not cool

A lot of people have trouble with Djinn. He is, without a shadow of a doubt, the hardest boss in the game. But the secret lies in learning his attack patterns. He has four attacks: a lightning bolt, a ground wave, a blue arc-thingo, and a rush attack. His usual pattern is to use three attacks from his first three and then to use his rush attack. You have to learn to notice each attack and to avoid them all. I will outline each one, using Sadler to demonstrate, as Sadler's the only one really able to keep good distance and still hit for respectable damage with a fast attack and enough agility to avoid Djinn's attacks. Rumi's attacks don't always work, Fakyle is way too slow with his magic, and Kindi is just utterly worthless...slow, short range, and jumps like an elephant.

Lightning bolt: he will stretch his arm out towards you. Jump away from him, as you can't hit him during this attack or you'll take heavy damage.
Ground wave: he brings both of his arms in, then throws them out, releasing the ground wave. Jump over the wave and slash away. You can get in quite a few hits with this attack.
Blue arc: He raises his finger into the air and you see the arc spin for a second. Jump over the arc (this takes some timing but you'll get it down after awhile) and slash away. You'll get in a few hits.
Rush attack: When he lands, he will appear to do nothing...and less than a second later, he'll quick fly across the screen along the ground. Jump over him and land in front of him to get in a few hits.

You have to learn to react to all four attack patterns. While Djinn at first is a bruiser, once you learn his patterns he's a sitting duck and you can kick his ass without taking a single hit. Each time he flies to the other side of the screen over you, make sure you're somewhere more than halfway across the screen away from him. That way, his lightning bolt can't reach you, and you have more than enough space and reaction time to counter his three other attacks. But watch out too...he will occasionally mix things up a bit and use his rush attack early...so you should be especially aware of what his prep for that attack looks like.

If you need help with the Floating Garden, let me know. :)

By the way, I don't think you can level up to level 17 because I believe I tried doing that, but once you get all the experience points, it just stops there and you can't level up anymore. I remember that really aggrivated me the last two times I played the game.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Correct...when you reach 65535 experience points, nothing happens. :)

thanks for all the help guys (very good and detailed information nodtveidt!)  i'm a little burnt out after yesterday because you have to go so far without any save points.  i'll gear up and try that boos again tomorrow with my new-found knowledge.
Glad i did't go for level 17!  that's so stupid because they even save you a little room on the life bar.

The Floating Garden isn't exceptionally difficult, but there are a couple of secrets in it and to it that if you miss, I can offer assistance for. :) But first, a hint: use Rumi for the Floating Garden. :D
