Wow, I feel weird just looking at the logos that way. I love the JP MD logo, think is has a much cooler feel to it than the US Genesis one.
Oh, absolutely....I don't want to over-generalize, but it is clear that the Genesis leaned heavily on the tacky/ostentatious/gaudy side of things (exaggerated shiny chrome/metal) vs. the Japanese marketing/branding (which had some really nice, clean, sharp, bold logo design/branding).
I never-ever liked the goofy "16-bit" chrome badge on the console, though. That is one of the tackiest things in the universe.
Of course, I can *appreciate* the 16-bit badge on the console (the designers succeeded in their vision...it was successfully executed...I give them full credit for execution...it's just a shame it was so tacky).
I know I wandered beyond logo/branding and into console aesthetics (physicality)...but there was an overlap between the two (the Genesis logo invokes chrome/metal)....
DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS UK logo for MegaDrive.....the U.K. version is **even tackier and more disgusting** than my worst nightmare of an airbrushed shirt from the New Jersey boardwalk.
I'll shut the f*ck up now.
