so im going to ask a question.
Lets say i have an expensive game.. i want to sell it, but at the same time i also have some other expensive games to buy. Im not able to trade because there is no one to do it, so i figure i'll ebay the game i have, get the best price i can, and then buy the games i want at the best price i can ( as it turns out most likley via ebay ). Is this wrong/evil/greedy? or just whats required in an open market. Just interested to know because im in that situation.. cant find what i need locally via trades and cant afford to pay ebay prices unless i ebay the items myself.
Interested to know what people think.
If you're like some of the clowns 'round these here parts and expect the deal to be completed in a week's time, then you'll have to go the ebay route; if you can be patient, then you can go the forum route. There are quite a few members that have purchased/traded for some of the pricier titles without resorting to ebay, so it most definitely can be done, but you must be to take the slow road.
Well i hope your not suggesting im a clown, because i waited 8 years for a MC box to come my way..
i call that patient, and i have a member on this forum to thank for it.
The reality is im not against ebay. Yes there are some stupid prices, do i buy those auctions, no.. some people might. Good for them.. but i'll wait to get a deal. Would i sell my MC for less than 1500 on this forum. No not in todays market ( truth is i wouldnt sell it to anyone anyways its all mine
).. why? because the likley hood is if i'm selling that game then i need the cash and as much of it as i can get. Would i sell my Spare dracula x on the forum, yes i was going to, had a buyer, $80 shipped ( international shipping aswell ), seems a fair price, less than ebay simialr to japan prices, but the seller fell through, wasted my time, so i start to think, why bother offering when i know i can get more with potentially less hassle on ebay. Still i re offered the game to another person on the forum, they ended up buying a CDR so again waste of time.
Would i trade me gear ( girl games, terraforming etc ). YES absolutely id love to, thats what my spares are for, to trade with other people who have the parts i need, help each other out, that to me is helping the community, doing a fair trade where both parties have positive outcomes. But like others have said the rare stuff doesnt pop up that much, and after 10 years or so with this system id like to complete it
.. you can only wait so long for parts.. so people say, just sell me your game for a decent price.. thats great, but if i have to buy the gear i want from ebay because its not coming up locally then unfortunately i also have to sell my gear on ebay to afford to buy from ebay.. not what i want.. but hey thats reality. Whats funny is forum run auctions still seem to go for very high prices.. generally the new members bidding items up, but as we cant control the members we have or restrict them in any way, we cant guarentee that forum run auctions will go for fair ( lower than ebay ) prices either.
What i am against is someone getting a sweet deal, on the forums, and then re selling on the same forums for alot more. That does suck.. If however you get a deal via teh forums ( eg someone comes here and says hey im new i have this game for sale and they are under pricing it, if someone manages to buy it then i have no issue with that person selling it on ebay to make a quick buck.. thats how we get the funds to buy what we need, no different to garage sale pick ups. Helping the community doesnt mean you have to sell for low ball prices.
i do have some rarer items to trade ( all the girl games, terraforming , a stack of boxes and manuals ), and happy to do fair trades, but if it comes down to me having to buy games from wmac via ebay for market prices, then unfortunately my trade gear is gonna have to be sold for market prices to cover my purchase.. im sure deep down inside you all agree with that and as im not US based, i also cant find anything locally.
Would i pay 150 for godzilla, nope.. and i sold mine for 80.. but that was 1 year ago, and i can understand wmac trying to get as much as he can for his copy, maybe he did over pay, we all do it.. and he wants as much back as he can get, pit it on ebay, set the reserve at 80 and then see what the market will pay, because if ebay people will only pay 80, then he'll never get 150 anyways, and there is nothing stopping forum members from bidding at 80... Just a thought
