Failure!
« on: March 02, 2010, 06:45:20 AM »
Had Oldskool over last night for some Turbo fun.  We decided on some Legend of Hero Tonma a go.  We got stuck quite a few times on different levels playing 2 player (this game can be a bitch).  Old was on the Castle level and I was on the level right before the castle when Old decides to fiddle with the controller and BAM!  Select-Run RESET.   DAMN that function, just damn it!   ](*,)

Although it's great to be able to reset the system without getting up to hit a button on the console it sure can be a pain in the ass.  I know it's probably happened to all of us before a few times.  Usually it's when you're pretty far into a game.  Any of the times it's happened to you stick out?  Let's hear it!
All is well. :)

I've never had an accidental reset.  I have, however, intentionally reset a game out of frustration (whilst bellowing "f*ck this shit!").

I have this TERRIBLE habit of fiddling with the select & run buttons while playing (usually during cut scenes on CD games. I even move my thumbs over them as if I am going to reset. I don't know why I do it, it's just some subconscious thing, but a couple of times I have actually pressed them by accident, much to my frustration afterwards.

I remember back before I got my Turbo- I played so much Super Mario World on SNES.  When you play a level that you have already beaten you could quick pause+select to leave the level.  I used to make a habit out of doing it when I was about to die (get stomped by a baddy, or fall into a pit).  I got pretty good at it- to the point where it was second nature to me to just hit start+select when I died!  lol

When I got my TG16, I remember playing Bonk's Adventure, and I died for the first time... somehow the title screen was all of the sudden being displayed...lol- I had a rough time getting out of that habit....

I've also done this to many times to count.  Almost all of the times, I have regretted doing it.

Hmm... I'm not sure if it's happened with some of the games that heavily use select and/or run as another button... before I had a 6 button pads.

No.  Lets be politically correct here please.  It's for the "gaming challenged".

So yes, on some games I may be gaming challenged.   Thank you!  :o

and it's so DAMN easy to do that on on our belovwed system. they should have implemented a "yes/no" function which always asks you if you really want to execute a reset after pushing run & sel.

I did this COUNTLESS times on Dragon Slayer until I got into the habit of saving the game every 2 minutes.

This feature actually makes Tower Of Druaga (a Huey Game) more playable, IMHO.

Speaking of Dragon Slayer and regret...  Try selling a Duo R on ebay only to realize a day later you left your ONLY copy of Dragon Slayer for the TG in the Duo when you shipped it.  The dude never even left feedback...

Nah, that would have been annoying, too.
