I used to be REALLY into fighting games a few years ago, but now I just try to focus on all sorts of classic gaming.

My all time favorite fighting game is The King of Fighters '98, mainly because of the hardcore, technical, in-depth gameplay and the huge character list. When it comes to the playability, this game is pretty much as perfect as it can get. Characters are balanced extremely well, tons of manuever variations, a flawless amount of different moves, an excellent combo structure, etc.... Besides the gameplay, it's not really a "great" game, but that doesn't matter because the gameplay is near perfection.

My favorite KoF characters: Benimaru, Yamazaki (ultimate fighting designed character in any game), Kyo, Ryo, Saisyu, Takuma, Athena, Kensou, and even Chizuru (who most people HATE). Pretty much every character is good in this game because it's so well balanced.

Other favorite fighting games of mine:
Street Fighter II (specifically Super Street Fighter II and Super Street Fighter II Turbo), SNK vs Capcom: Match of the  Millenium (Best pocket fighting game out there. Simply amazing!), Fatal Fury Special, Street Fighter Alpha 3, KoF'97, KoF'2k2, KoF'2k1 (Well sort of. I just like going into practice mode and pulling off huge combos with the strikers and infinites), Last Blade 1 and 2,  X-Men vs Street Fighter (The only game in the Marvel vs Capcom series that I like. I can't stand some of the others.), Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Well this game is both good and bad to me.).

Favorite Street Fighter characters - Guile, Ken, Zangief, Guy, Rolento, and more.

Fatal Fury Special - Jubei, Geese, Duck King.

SvC: Match of the Millenium - Zangief (Zangief plays amazing on the NGPC click stick. You can combo in his throws with no problems!), Kyo, Ryo, Iori/Evil Iori, Ken, Bison (even though he is a bit cheap).

Last Blade - Moriya (similar to Yamazaki, only not quite as awesome), Lee Rekka, Kaede, that ninja dude (forgot his name, been awhile since I have played these games), Kagami.

XMvSF - Haven't played this game in a LOOONG time, so I forgot who my top tiers were. I believe Ken, Gambit, and Wolverine were characters I enjoyed using. Charlie too, of course.

Garou - Rock Howard (Awesome character. Nothing cooler than Geese mixed with Terry), Marco Rodriguez (Or "Butt", hahaha.), Kim Jong Il (or maybe it was the other Kim-like character).

Fighting games rule, but they can be pretty deadly in real life and cause some actual fights, which is another reason why I don't play them as much I used to anymore   . Competition can get brudle. One time I was wipping my cousin's ass in KoF'98 so hard (like a 20-30 win streak) and he  was getting so pissed off that he actually CRIED, hahaha. That felt really weird for me.

Do you have a fast connection, Ninja Spirit? Maybe we could play some of these games on Kaillera sometime.

As a side note, shouldn't this go under the other heading, General Systems, but besides....hmmm

Well, I play mainly the fighters on the PCE, so thats Fatal Fury Special and I like Terry Boggard, Street Fighter II Champion Edition and I use Ken, World Heroes II generally Lee, but haven't messed around enough really, Art of Fighting I use Ryo but generelly that game isn't really good enough to play.

Now as for other games, when I played the latest Mortal Kombat I play as Baraka, Def Jam New York I like Henery Rollins, mainly because he's bad ass....I don't play alot of modern fighters...I like Tekken a little, I play as Jin, never played any incarnation of VF series or the Guilt Gear series...I guess fighters have just gotten to complicated for me...sad but true...

Big chance I might this weekend. School stuff during the week. You'll see me there as "Dynamo Man". Hopefully there's good latency on our new wireless router.
The Neo Geo stuff can be stubborn on my MAME most of the time. Pretty much all the Neo geo games act like they don't have ROMs for them. Hell I don't even know how to get games like SvC Chaos, Samurai Shodown Zero/5, and King of Fighters 2001-3 to work on MAME.

I added you to my AIM buddy list a few hours ago, Ninja Spirit. I'll contact you if I ever see 'ya online and we can try to make plans for something then. I have been downloading some of the arcade fighting game ROMs that I have lost for years now. I'll have to practice some of these games too since I am more than likely quite rusty.

Are you f*ing serious about Henry Rollings being in that game!? That kicks so much ass! Henry Rollins is on my list of the top most badass people to ever live.

Haha I think it's Henry Rollins, not Rollings.

Keranu you use Yamazaki?  Man his portrait in Capcom Vs SNK 2 was so awesome, it looked like he was terrified of something.  He was a total joke in that game cause he always looked so damn scared, my roommate used to pick him just because it was so hilarious.

Shit I can't believe I put a "G" in "Rollins"!

Anyways, hell yeah I use Yamazaki and I can't quite remember how is picture looked in CvS2, I would have to load the game up to see (not a big CvS2 fan). Yamazaki was brilliantly designed; both in fighting wise and design wise as you mentioned. He is the ultimately defense and fooling character. However Yamazaki really requires the SNK four buttons in a row style because using a typical Playstation button layout absolutely kills his snake arm moves.

The awesome thing about Yamazaki is that you can hold your snake arms for so long to trick people and can cancel with "D" whenever you want. If you were charging your snake arm, the typical person playing you would figure "Hey since I know he is going to do a snake arm, I'll just fireball his ass!" but NOPE! A Yamazaki player would know to cancel his snake arm and either blast that fireball back with his QCB+C or absorb it for life with QCB+A. Lets say the opponent does get past Yamazaki's snake arms, then  Yamazaki could simply do his HCB+Kick move to taunt the person so when the person attacks, Yamazaki autmatically counters their attack making them feel like a dumbass preschool boy. Of course there are other things you can do in this situation, such as trying to get your chance to combo the opponent, using a CD, or using his QCB+K move.

Yamazaki was just a genius idea. No one can quite match his perfect style, unless maybe your a really good Geese Howard player. Geese Howard is another DEADLY character if you have practiced enough with him. I need more practice with Geese though because it can be hard to get used to timing his throws perfectly. A good friend of mine is an excellent Geese player and he'll throw anything he can get his hands on, even the most powerful supers (or DM/SDMs in KoF).

I would also love to mention here than the USA Team in KoF'94 and KoF'98 is probably the most underrated group of characters in ANY fighting game. Their designs may look flat out stereo-typcial Americans (SNK is known to be a bit racist when designing American characters :D ), but this certainly does not stop them from being excellent characters. Brian and Lucky are actually some of the best characters in KoF'98.

Brian - The football player. Looks like a retard, but he is EFFECTIVE. A very easy to do combo with him that can take off I believe 50-75% life is J., QCB+C, S.C, HCF+C. If you hit someone with the J. QCB+C move, then you can easily follow up on the rest of the combo, and it can be pretty easy to even hit someone with the J. QCB+C move. An excellent character with one of the best combos in the game.

Heavy D! - Okay this is the weakest guy in the bunch, but he's not such a bad character. His QCB+A and QCB+C moves can be quite nice to deceive people with. Also his QCFx2+C move is very damaging if it hits. However his combos are pretty weak and he doesn't  have the greatest offense and defense. Still not a bad character though.

Lucky - Alright the black man of the game that plays basketball; no it's not stereo-typical at all, SNK! Anyways, Lucky is an amazing character. You can fool the HELL out of someone with all of his basketball moves. Not only is he deceiving, but he's quite powerful too when you are attacking someone. A badass character.

By the way, has anyone ever tried using one of Lucky's D.D+A, B, C, or D moves into a combo? Instead of a ball dropping, Lucky fakes it out and punches the person in the face instead. Quite funny, actually.

And as far as another underrated character goes, I'd say Chizuru can be quite dangerous too. A nice list of confusing moves, some above average combos, and an excellent CD.

Pretty much all the teams in KOF'98 are good, I particularly like the USA team myself, and of course, the Orochi team (I'm sure they have another name that my ignorant American ass doesn't know, hehe). Chizuru is one of my favorite characters to play in KOF'97 (the Kyo-Iori-Chizuru teamup in '97 has the coolest ending). That series though...I just dislike how they kept on reusing Rugal...he's been in what, five games now as the final boss?

I am glad to see another Chizuru fan out there!

The funny thing about Rugal is that he is actually one of, if not, the worst character in KoF'98. His reaction time after pulling off a move is so slow that the opponent easily has the advantage to severely strike Rugal down. The only good thing about him really is his unblockable super, but that can be easily avoidable. His shield can also come in lots of handy against some players though :D . But of course you may as well choose Athena for that since she has a shield and a whole bunch of other stuff to offer that Rugal doesn't.

By the way, the Orochi team is pretty good to as you mentioned. Chris, especially, is a fantastic fighter. Their alternate Orochi versions in KoF'98 are quite good too, especially Orochi Yashiro who can be damaging.

*Phoenix Down* (heh I feel weird posting a Final Fantasy reference on a PCE/Turbo board   )

Thank god for Youtube.com. Now I got a place to put my long overdue match videos.

Anyway got a handful of fighting game match videos for y'all to enjoy, Guilty Gear XX/XX#R and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike to be exact. All videos recorded and made by yours truly.

Guilty Gear XX
------------------
All this from a tournament we threw at my local arcade at the mall. They're nice matches but I'd say don't expect to feel the heat from watching GGXX matches recorded in Japan. Most fighter afficionados know that the Japanese straight up OWN in this game.

Guilty Gear XX #Reload
----------------------------
For some that don't understand what "#Reload" means, things are different compared to the other version of GGXX in the previous videos. Character balances were tweaked which means some characters that were considered overpowered and broken on XX would make him either suck or even deadlier. And roman canceling timing was changed. These match videos were taken from the Korean version, which is totally different from the Japanese version as far as music and voices go.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

Just checked out all the Third Strike videos, some funny commentary on them, with the whole "wet pants" thing   . I assume you weren't playing in these, right Ninja? Anyways, that Yun player was pretty good, his skills showed a lot more in the second video. I really like that super he chains into and everyone yells "HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY!", good stuff :D . There is a special joy when playing fighting games with friends at the arcade where you can become one with the joystick and talk to your friend casually while focusing on the game at the same time... such a great feeling. I should build a new joystick and get into fighting games again, it's a nice world of gaming and keeps the arcades alive.

Nope wasn't playing. In the Korean Guilty Gear XX #R videos, that was my Johnny that won and the Sol that lost against Slayer.
I am the cameraman in all the live match videos, and the loudest one out of the group yelling "HEY! HEY! HEY!" everytime the hits from that super move linked. it's one of those love it or hate it kind of stuff. some think it's annoying and think people that do that are "Japanophiles" (I despise that word with a passion), some think it's just fun silly stuff. It is true, the Japanese picked that cheer up from Muay Thai Kickboxing fights from Thailand (watch Van Damme's "Kickboxer" films) and implemented it into fighting games during long combos and juggle links. Then when Evolution 2003 came around, the Americans were introduced to that cheer during the finals as a Japanese Yun player called "K.O." battled his way to 1st place for 3rd Strike, bumping Daigo Umehara (the guy who fully parried Chun Li's super) to 2nd place.

Speaking of that, anyone familiar with the name "Justin Wong"? I kinda know him. One of the highest ranked players in the USA. Until a few months back, he was the most feared player in the game Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. For 2 or 3 years he won every tournament in MvC2 he came across.
