Good run and gun games on the PCengine?
« on: June 11, 2010, 06:23:14 PM »
Hi all, I'm new here. Just got my PCengine Duo this Monday, and I'm loving it thus far.

I'm just wondering though, are there any good run and gun games on this system in the same vein as contra?

Good horizontal run 'n guns?  No, not a one.

But for overhead run 'n guns, there is the supremely awesome Last Alert.

There is Toaplan's 'Horror Story' which is very hard though, I like tough games but I found this a bit too much, maybe I need to give it more play time.

It has been discussed on the forum that one of few things the PC-Engine game catalogue needs is a really good run and gun, like a Contra game or an Arcade CD port of Metal Slug.

Konami were kind enough to grace the PC-engine with the best version of Castlevainia (Dracula X) if only they'd also given us Contra....

Shubibinman 3 is great, but it's not a run 'n gun.  Just don't want the topic creator to be disappointed if he goes in expecting Contra, but gets a Shinobi/MegaMan cross instead.

right you are. but since he already had to read, that there are no real run 'n gunners on the PCE, I think he won't be disappointed of this one :)

Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair.

Genji Tsushin Agedama

Both cute and auto-scrollers with an emphasis on platforming, but there is a lot of running and shooting involved.

Schbibin Man 2 is closer to a run and gun because your primary weapon is long range and not a sword as in 1 and 3. But it's not a brilliant game.

Genji Tsushin Agedama really is a great game!!, I'm on the fence whether its a run and gun or not, mmm... I guess maybe it is,
its just the style of the game is totally different to Contra, Metal Slug, Gunstar Heroes etc..
