Can't load the nfggames site at the moment, but some other random interesting tidbits, including the vistar ad in a Korean magazine (most likely from a monthly/weekly comic magazine) and from this ->blog<-, which includes shots of what the CIB system looks like.

- The ad states that 22 titles were available.  I'm not sure if any of these titles were actually localized with Korean script ingame or simply quick jobs with a translated Korean manual but North American Turbochip games.  As far as I recall that's what they did with Keith Courage, at least according to that nfggames site.
- Looks like Neutopia II was localized as "Utopia II" in Korea.
- Vistar owners also got those gimmicky shades in the pic which claimed to reduce the effects of any "harmful rays".  :-s  You could apparently buy the glasses separately for approx US$25 (that's my ballpark estimate of the exchange rate at the time)
- Unlike the TG16, the Vistar had both RF and A/V outputs, but the A/V output seems to be only in mono.

It reminds me of those old RCA DSS boxes: boring, homely, and plain.  Plus, the controllers were rather poorly done: notice that the cheap bums didn't bother to cast new cases and it still says TurboGrafx-16 in the center, yet they translated the text on the shiny part around the buttons (Buttons A & B - [-( ).

I've murdered people for less...

I prefer to call it justifiable homicide.....

I like the cord length of that Vistar 16 game system. As if the ones from the PC Engine weren't already short enough.

And why did they use the ubermegaugly TG-16 cover arts instead of the ubermegacool PCE ones? They like to copy any other shit comming from Japan, why not these too?

This is only speculation, but... at the time Vistar was released in Korea, many Japanese goods were not allowed to be officially imported into Korea -- especially in many categories that were deemed to have adverse "cultural" influence, such as comics and video games -- That's why tons of Japanse pirated goods in Korea existed in that particular era because JP goods couldn't legally come into Korea in the first place.  Hence, the importer (Haitai) probably imported the NA versions of the games to get around this legal loophole.  I suppose Haitai could've gone out of their way to put on Japanese cover art minus all the Japanese script and have the game be NA versions, but as you can see in the nfggames site, all they did was *directly* import the TG16 versions and just tack on stickers on the HuCards.

(For those of you wondering, "Hey, but those "Vistar"/TG16 HuCards are still made in Japan.  Doesn't that mean it still would've been illegal under the same import rule?", it's not so much where the good was made, but the fact that JP PCE HuCards would've had Japanese writing and so forth, whereas the NA Turbochips wouldn't have.  This might also explain the absence of Japanese menu in the versions of the Samsung Saturn).

Not bad looking. Much more stylish than the American version.

np shubi.

As for its design, I'd have to agree with Necro.  I prefer the TG16 design over this one for sure.  This Vistar's kinda Plain-Jane, not to mention the absence of CD-port is super-lame.

That doesn't surprise me. Finding anything from that era that isn't a pirate Famicom is basically impossible.
