this is dumb. really? this next to the auction where people are selling the metal slug collection for half a million is depressing.

since when did old video games turn into bitcoin? (artificially inflated due to speculation?)

whatever. I have a local video game store that has records of this game selling for 29 dollars back in the year 2003. This auction is silly.

LOL.  Bitcoin is a silly comparison.

great email geise.

raising video game prices based on speculation is silly by itself. my comparison was meant to be silly :P

Dear justpressplayonline,

Hi! Do you believe the price will continue to increase on this item due to collectors who way overpay? The market for this game isn't gouged high enough yet. The price isn't really that high either and I'm hoping for a chance to still score this at a good price. If you say it will still keep going up in value for years to come I will place my 8k bid. I'm just starting to think that it might be at it's peak and worry that if I put in a 10k bid I might not be able to recoup the money when I re-sell.

Dear geise69,

Hi there. Thanks for the question. Obviously, when you buy something as an investment, you always take a chance. Its the same whether you are speaking of collectibles, precious metals, or the stock market. You are speculating that the money you are investing will give you a greater return at some particular time in the future. So there is no real way to know for sure, but, in my opinion, mega rare games like this will continue to appreciate for decades to come. Just look at comic books and baseball cards. The more common stuff is now worthless, but the "holy grails" in both continue to break records, in the MILLIONS!

I had a interesting experience (this involves ebay too) at a semi local game store I frequent whenever I go to the dentist in the tricities. I saw that this guy had Legend of Hero Tomna for $150 complete with box so I thought I would try to talk him down on his price a little bit. So what does he do? He goes on Ebay and looks for what it was sold for and saw that it went for $600 and proceeded to mark up the price of the game! I was like wtf really? You have had this game on your shelf for 2 years and it hasn't sold so you decide to mark it up 4x? Lame.

Something similar happened to me one time.  I was at a used game store and the guy there had a bunch of games, one of which was strider.  Dude wanted $15 for it, I thought that was pretty cool.  It was under the counter and I said "I'd like Strider."

"We don't have it."

"Yes you do, its that one right there"

Well, there's no English on the cover so the store owner didn't even know what the game was.  The guy said "Oh, that's strider?"  Goes to his computer, checks ebay, then says "Sorry, it was mislabeled.   That'll be $99.99"

Seriously though, Tonma for $150?  Should've just taken that.  Still not super cheap but waaaaay cheaper than you'll ever find on ebay.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

The box was all beatup and I'm wasn't about ready to blow $150 on a game I won't play nor really cared for. I thought it was ludicrous he had it for $100 a year ago but now its 6 times that! Sorry, I'll stick to getting a everdrive at that price.
