I saw a listing for a completely worn sealed SMB that got a 5 or something.

It was sealed, so I can see the owner trying to milk that aspect. Ha! I am sure the owner was disappointed.

Actually, the owner was incredibly happy. The guy in question, Paul, had his entire collection stolen. After that, NA helped him rebuild his NES fullset... with a twist. He asked for the crappiest condition, awful carts they could find (a kind of steal this garbage nod). Anyway, it really was a community rallying around a guy that had been done wrong. This joke of a sealed SMB was the cherry on top.

Here's the post on it. http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?StartRow=1&catid=10&threadid=61428

OK, I was wrong about that. It actually is an interesting story (not that this fellow's agony should simply be reduced to an anecdote for my entertainment, but such is life).

UPDATE: For excellent photos of FRONT and BACK of VGA graded box, jump to the last page of posts, MoeDown, the dude who donated the SMB has some humorous comments, in addition to photos.

I am not a member of NA, so I could not find a way to directly link to MoeDown's post. FOR SHAME.

Thanks for the link, the real story behind this makes the sealed SMB far richer and far more intriguing :)

BONUS POST: The used car industry has been using the euphemism "pre-owned cars" for decades now (I remember when "used" became "pre-owned", it was hilarious to me).

ANYWAY, I feel that the time is right for slimy sellers to start using "pre-owned cartridge"  and "pre-owned HuCARD" and __________.

Smile. :)
Now there is "Certified pre owned"

Separate from the interesting story, it shows that VGA will take your money to grade anything. It really is just individual resellers choosing which games to send to VGA and which to seal in protective sandwich bags and grade themselves.

From the dude selling blank FEKA discs?  I guess he's branching out to another sucker market.  :|

Who's buying this overpriced shit?  The quality appears to be so low that a sharpie label would look just as good.

The whole of eBay annoys me anymore. When it comes to buying/selling I'll just stick with my friends here on the forums or haggling at conventions.

Yeah... I actually considered coming up for that, but man its a long haul. I also had to choose between MGC and the Carolina Rebellion festival next month. A friend hooked me up with a free pair of rebellion tickets, so I couldn't pass it up. It will still be an expensive weekend though.
