I saw a listing for a completely worn sealed SMB that got a 5 or something.
It was sealed, so I can see the owner trying to milk that aspect. Ha! I am sure the owner was disappointed.
Actually, the owner was incredibly happy. The guy in question, Paul, had his entire collection stolen. After that, NA helped him rebuild his NES fullset... with a twist. He asked for the crappiest condition, awful carts they could find (a kind of steal this garbage nod). Anyway, it really was a community rallying around a guy that had been done wrong. This joke of a sealed SMB was the cherry on top.
Here's the post on it. http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?StartRow=1&catid=10&threadid=61428
OK, I was wrong about that. It actually is an interesting story (not that this fellow's agony should simply be reduced to an anecdote for my entertainment, but such is life).
UPDATE: For excellent photos of FRONT and BACK of VGA graded box, jump to the last page of posts, MoeDown, the dude who donated the SMB has some humorous comments, in addition to photos.
I am not a member of NA, so I could not find a way to directly link to MoeDown's post. FOR SHAME.
Thanks for the link, the real story behind this makes the sealed SMB far richer and far more intriguing
