I'm not dismissing all BINs as irrelevant either, just significantly undervalued ones.  They probably listed it on year / two year ago pricing and hadn't kept up with the market.  I know there's plenty of items I own where I see what they are selling now and can't believe it myself.

It's only 'significantly undervalued' if you ignore the other copies that sold earlier this year for similar prices (in regular auctions no less).  Not everyone has such short memories or has bought in to eBay's limited history ploy.

How is it nonsense?

Learn to read.  I clearly stated why it's illogical and ignores other important factors.

I have a $100 offer that is unfilled demand, and if it appears on eBay again I'll be bidding.  I probably wouldn't bid exactly $100 because I'm cheap and like to get a good deal, but I'm sure I'd go $70/$80.  Now, perhaps once I obtain a copy, no one else is "dumb" enough to pay that and price would drop.  But until that happens I'm confident value is not as low as people would think.

Also, worth noting that box condition does play a factor.  You could argue that $125 is more of a Excellent to Mint price, maybe $60 is price with a totally trashed box and Very Good is somewhere in the middle.  Price does need to be taken with a grain of salt... though my initial comments are just stating that $125 on a Excellcent fully complete copy isn't ridiculous in the current market.

So it's totally worth $125... but you'll only pay $100....... and it's really worth just $70.

What does this even mean? How are you immune to what games are currently, actively selling for?

Mostly patience.  If you're willing to wait for a better deal, the high water mark of one sale is not the sole determinant of value.

I would like to purchase a copy of Super Star Soldier for $30 and not a penny more. How do I avoid being an impulsive collectard and make this happen?

Buy the PCE version?

If you specifically mean the TG-16 version, you're twisting what others are saying and applying it to a bullshit scenario.  The prices being quoted for Impossamole are real auctions that've occurred within the last year, not some bogus number that hasn't been valid for years.

Patience? That is flat out wrong. Tell that to folks who waited on Little Samson, which used to be an $80 cart not too long ago.

What is bullshit about wanting Super Star Soldier? And why would I buy the PCE version? I don't have a JP system or an import converter. If I just want to play the game, I can download it on the Wii or illegally. I want a US HU-card that I can play on my NTSC TG-16 and I'd like to pay $30. Is this an unsolvable puzzle?

a region mod would open you up to tons of cheaper, PCE versions of USA games and many more never even released here.  But i will warn you... PCE games didnt have boxes.

KingofGames: You're not going to pull another multi-page off topic rant in this thread.  There will be no further warnings.

This topic has a point? Could've fooled me.

The region mod is a great solution, except I can play a decent amount of these games on the Wii for much less, or for free on my PC or through whatever other means of emulation I prefer. I still don't see how this has any impact on what US HU-cards are selling for.

Yep, it's not a WTB thread.  He was given an answer but wanted to argue and bitch about this thread's existence again, so he can take a two week vacation.

Anecdote: I'm a Shinobi fan, so I wanted to get a genuine copy of PCE Shinobi. I "set" my price at $40 for cic, but most offered on ebay were $60+shipping or more, including a sealed copy for $80 from dr. orangejuicer.

I waited (as in a couple months), and finally got it for $35+shipping from Japan.

If you're an actual collector, the hunt is supposed to be part of the fun, which includes patience and networking.

So true. If everyone wasnt so damn impatient to own it yesterday and speculated how much the prices would increase in the next 6 months then we wouldnt have soldier blade going from a $200 CIB to a $700 CIB in just a few months. (Im just using that as a example, numerous other could be quoted here) What happened to just saying nah, Im not going to pay that much? There is no apparent financial limit to some collectors causing massive and fast inflation of value. And that is called a bubble, And that bubble will pop eventually.

( #-o cant get my reply out of the quote box - not sure how to fix  )

This, this, so much this.

I've paid right around 20$ or less for most of my PC Engine games (shooters, action games, not crap usually) , and the BIN prices are frequently $40+ for the same titles. I just wont pay that, they're not worth that to me. So I wait, and get to "hunt" which yeah, is actually just stalking ebay hard with buyer alerts etc. But it's super satisfying when you get your game at your price, and it adds in that delayed gratification that actually makes you look forward to playing the thing when it  arrives your mailbox. What fun would just be buying everything on a larf? None to me (though I guess I'd like to have that kind of money....)

On the flip side, I've also struck while the iron was hot and maybe overdid it, but felt it was worth it because the price was good. If anyone here was the guy on ebay selling awesome PCE shooters in TZD cases with no labels, for 20$ BINs right after Xmas last year, I'm the guy who bought a shit ton of them. I couldn't resist, and I'm still playing through them.

Someone must've said something pretty idiotic to drag me back into this discussion (I can't afford to replace anymore popped veins in my forehead). Saying someone who buys a Turbo game CIB is not purchasing it to play the actual game is foolhardy. I just bought Jackie Chan CIB for way under ebay prices and you can damn sure bet that it's gonna get played. If you're allowing yourself to collect games as shelf trophies and nothing else in the end you're the one being played.

There are lots of random odds and ends that I've sought out or would like to get someday, but am in no rush. I'd like to get the cardboard box and map for Ys I & II for example, but still haven't gotten around to it after losing mine 20 years ago.

I pay high prices for certain games sometimes and appreciate the difference between complete, premium complete and actually complete (NEW). But I don't fool myself into believing that I need to match someone else's criteria, settle for less that truly complete or that an otherwise complete game for <$100 is worth $500 because of a small piece of packaging.

I may very well pay a premium to get one of those extra bits, but not because I feel the need to fix what I feel is incomplete, only because there is a reason that specific thing has meaning to me.

My view of what generally is a complete game is how I and other people I knew bitd viewed complete as at the time.

Ditto. But this new rash of collectors doesn't seem to know how to do that. And its f*cking prices all sorts of up.

Hey funny you mention that guy I also bought a few PCE games, a NIB Avenune 3 controller and JP Saturn Terra Cresta 3d from him too. He had a nice group of stuff and at good prices.
