I've heard a few theories that some of the Let's Play type shows on youtube are driving up interest, who knows?

I do know that this doesn't help. Example; Game Grumps covered Pocky & Rocky and the already expensive game got a whole lot more expensive. Love those guys, but it gets kind of annoying that you almost have to pick up any retro game they play that looks decent the second they start showing it off otherwise might be a pain later to snag for a good price.

Yeah, it'll only be a matter of time before every decent game will have this happen to it.  I guess it's not a total loss if you can't get one game or another thanks to emulation, so at least everybody will be able to play.  But of course it's almost an entirely different experience to have the real thing!

The worst effect I've ever seen was when Mike Matei released this video on the AVGN's channel. (James and Mike are best buds, free publicity for Mike). Almost every game in his list spiked by 50% or more in the following months... Hagane had it the worst - it spiked from being a $50-60 game, all the way up to $350. It now goes for $250 regularly.

The video was released in July of 2012. I realize most people here don't like VGPC, but their charts tell the story.

That is an insane amount of control over the video game market.

It's not one guy making a video "controlling" the market; look at their index for all SNES licensed games and you'll see the same exact trajectory.
U.S. Collection: 98% complete    157/161 titles

Supply and demand, that's capitalism for you.

Kicking myself for not getting some games before they took off... I cringe a little when a new Game Center CX or AVGN or similar is released featuring a game I haven't yet gotten for myself.  I always hope to see more PC Engine on GCX, maybe it's good that I don't!

Supply and demand, that's capitalism for you.

Except this isn't simply a case of supply and demand.

Which is why its roms and flash carts for me.  Anything retro that's non Obey CD, is best played that way.  Frigging insane, stop the insanity...don't buy shit.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary with those game charts.
-Wild Guns
-Hagane
-Knights Of The Round
-King Of The Dragons
-FirePower 2000
It looks to me like a big spender caused a spike in the prices and they seem to come down just as fast.
Haven't one or two of those games been slated on Game Sack etc (FirePower 2000 sticks out)
so they're not all 'top quality' games.
Someone wasn't sucking up the cream of snes games, just the CIB copies, which always command a premium whatever the format and this naturally dragged up the unboxed versions as well.

It's not super cut and dry, but for sure it is. Only difference is that the demand is manufactured.

Unfortunately, so is supply, as resellers buy up multiple copies of games with inflation potential, then sit on stacks of them and only trickle them out at strategic times. The "market" is no longer enthusiasts buying, selling and trading games.
