The regular Genesis Everdrive (Everdrive MD?) is now very much worth buying, since receiving major upgrades that really narrowed the gap between it and the Mega Everdrive.

Lol at the rom seller. :P

Even if those games fell under the GPL, it still isn't legal for this douche to sell them on eBay.

Ahh dang that'd be nice, but I am almost as excited to get the backup ram for playing some of my Sega CD games as I am the functionality of playing all the other games I don't have :P

Amazing to me how these things are bought and sold on ebay, you would think someone would be policing it.

I could find an image with Wayback.

Oh, good idea!  Forgot about that site.  Seems like the SD2SNES is the better choice even on that chart.

I recommend it over all others.

I might have to nab one in the future then!  My next SNES purchase is going to be a Super Gameboy 2, I think, though.  Ideally I'd finally get a PVM or some kind of RGB monitor, then I read that the SNES has built in RGB already, get the right cable, and voila.  I kinda don't want to break the tabs in the console, does anyone know which converter I should look for?  I looked on ebay once and they were asking 50 bucks I think for it.  So a SFC into SNES converter, SGB2, and I'm gonna bust out some full screen GB goodness.  I might even try to dig up that Super Gameboy controller, since I'm into GB again so much.

Just get a Super Famicom. They are beautiful machines. On the RGB front not all SNESs are created equally. Read here http://retrorgb.com/snes.html

Yep, this is where I read it before.  I have one of the original units, and you're right, I'm not sure which revision it is.  In my move it's sure to turn up so I'll get it out then and check.  I want the cheapest route to playing real GB carts on a TV, so even though I would like a Super Famicom, and I agree they are a lot nicer looking than the SNES (mine was blessed with just the bottom part of the casing that turned brown, so it's only half fugly), in all likely hood I will probably try to make the SNES I have work.  There's a couple SFC carts I'd like to get but I don't have any plans to really collect them, just GB stuff.  The Super GB2 is important to me to have the proper clock speed running.  I'm also aware that it will only play the original gray GB carts and the black backwards compatibility ones, that's ok with me.. mostly interested in the gray carts anyway!

ProTip: tap each of the tabs in the SNES cart port lightly with a chisel to cleanly remove them and play SFC carts without disfiguring anything.

Missed this at first, thanks!  I'll check prices on those.

I don't remember them coming off so easily last time I tried.  It's certainly the cheapest option, but I think I'm gonna leave them be for now.

Seems excessive. Just break of the inner tabs from the SNES and it will play imports just fine.

Agreed. I wouldn't mess with a converter.

Yeah, if you're really adamant about not breaking the tabs then just hack up an old game genie.  It's not prefect but pretty much does the job.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the suggestions.  I broke the tabs off of a friend's console 20+ years ago when we were into imports, I just thought I might try to keep mine intact.  I'm not unfamiliar with the process.  I guess I need to just get my SNES out and see if it's even worth messing with, I might just go the Super Famicom console route.  I did always want one.
