I don't know why it is a shocker that a console exclusive game that is moderately hard to find with box commands $125 on the current market.  That's not even expensive?  If someone wants to complain about a price, they should be discussing Jackie Chan and Darkwing Duck which are pulling around $400 complete in box now.

It's a shocker because the game isn't very good. You're just buying a game to own it, satisfying some unholy desire to catch 'em all. It seems like there are better things that could be done with your money.

It was a CIB game, you can't play a box.  The "Game isn't good" argument only applies to Hu-Card only pricing.  When you start talking CIB or Sealed it is obviously being bought by a collector and gameplay is a distant afterthought.

$125 seems to be a crazy price because a few months ago similarly complete copies sold for half that.  If your idea of worth begins and ends with current ebay auctions, this thread probably isn't for you.

Actually, "a few months ago", the last public sale of a CIB was 5/28/16 was for $169 CAD (roughly $130 USD).  The recent sale is only crazy if you've lost concept of time or haven't been watching prices closely. Your "half that" price is probably longer ago than you think, maybe last year.

I know for a fact that there's been sales this year for $50 or less, but no matter.  If you want to believe it's well worth $125, good for you; we don't have to agree.

I just find it funny people thrown down money for a game that isn't fun to play.

Personally if a game isn't worth my time to enjoy then why is it worth my money?  Rarity, completion, or collection are not factors for me to buy a game. If I simply won't enjoy the experience of playing it, then I have no need for it.

My only wiggle room for completion of a game are CD/DVD based games. I prefer them to have their cases due to the fragil nature of a disc game. And don't want to wade through DBS binders like I use to when I was always traveling in the Army.

As it is my "need" of a game is even less of a factor as I could be perfectly content with the systems and everdrives for the systems which have it.

One of the biggest problems that feeds the out of control market is that most "collectors" don't understand how eBay or the/a market works. Worse still, they'll rely on inaccurate resources like pricecharting. Worse still, they go around saying things like the last copy sold for $130 and hype the phantom sales history to increase impulse buys, even when all it takes is a few clicks (if you understand how to operate eBay) to find that the last CIB copy sold recently for $45.

But that didn't have the (complete) sticker sheet, which everyone knows is worth twice as much as everything else combined!

If any one person desires extra items that sometimes get packed in with a game, that's cool. But it's still not completely complete without the entire shrinkwrap and the sticker on it that says "free stickers inside!".

Yep, there just was... like weeks ago, I picked one up in box for like $44 + Ship, but it is missing one sticker off the sheet...oh noes! lol no I could care less really. I think like 6 months before that there was some sealed ones selling at like 50-60 IIRC and other boxed ones 40 ish range. Problem is Ebay only shows 3 months of sold listings so Game values are so jacked up because enough people cant remember to 6 months ago or cared a year ago or more.

Want to vomit a little, check worthpoint for TG16 games. Bonk 3 (hucard version) CIB in 2010 was avg. a $100-125 (complete with outer box). Which makes this friggen insane : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bonk-3-Bonks-Big-Adventure-TurboGrafx-TurboDuo-card-cartridge-not-CD-/291861302337?hash=item43f44a0c41:g:K9sAAOSwvzRXxxAj
That just sold, start bid was 800 and BIN was $1125.

I'll admit, Im a bit late to the TG16 party. I got my TG16 with some games like 8 yrs ago at a garage sale and never really played it up until 2 years ago. And then I slowly started buying other games. My regret, I didnt start earlier or just bought more of what I actually wanted to play back then. The price increases are nuts here, Ive never seen increases this drastic or fast, ever. I need bonk 3 but I sure as shit am not going to spend $1100 on it. Not when I bought the pce version for $40. Problem is that TG16 is the next new thing to collect so there is a mass of new collectors and apparently they are willing to spend pretty much ANYTHING to get what they believe is "uber rare" Complete in box turbografx games and these are the results. There just isnt enough supply to meet the new rush of demand. It doesn't mean these games are rare like the ark of the covenant (though that thought is part of what is feeding this trend). Theres just too many impatient, new buyers and not enough people that want to sell there copy. Which sucks for the common gamer or casual collector like me, but at least its a little entertaining to watch. But you'd think at these prices it may drive new sellers to part ways with their games and then all you need is a copy of 2 of any game to sit on ebay stagnant for a while and then prices will hopefully go back to reality and not the hyped up over inflated plateau they are at now.

Someone must've said something pretty idiotic to drag me back into this discussion (I can't afford to replace anymore popped veins in my forehead). Saying someone who buys a Turbo game CIB is not purchasing it to play the actual game is foolhardy. I just bought Jackie Chan CIB for way under ebay prices and you can damn sure bet that it's gonna get played. If you're allowing yourself to collect games as shelf trophies and nothing else in the end you're the one being played.

You don't need a CIB copy to play and enjoy the game. Heck, you don't need the actual game to play and enjoy it. What point are you attempting to make? A CIB IS a shelf trophy, whether you wanna believe it or not.

And there's some collectors who don't understand Buy It Now vs. auctions.  The last two auctions have broke $120.  A underpriced buy it now sold for $45 probably immediately upon posting.  Heck, you can go list yours at $20 Buy it now and have it sell in 30 seconds if you'd like?  It is pretty worthless as a data point though.

Once again, willing to pay $100 shipped on a CIB in nice condition and there's been crickets.  If that price was so overvalued sellers would be lining up to sell.
