What's your take on Godzilla?
« on: August 16, 2010, 12:46:20 PM »
I just got done playing some Godzilla, and I am kind of up in the air on whether or not it is a good game.

Pros:
Lots of Monsters
Super XII!!!
Fun and simple
The multi-roar after each stage as your total score tallies is hilarious
Awesome vs. fighting when you have a friend around

Cons:
Why only one attack button?  Jump should be up!
Why do I need to reset the game after I beat it?
Only using the same cheap combo seems to work, no variety
Graphics could've been better

Comparing this game to the NES Godzilla makes me very happy this is a fighting game, and not that pile of shit.  But compared to Primal Rage or King of the Monsters, there is a lot more that could've been done here.  In the end, I think this game is a good diversion once in a while, and at least it's not Fighting Street!

Its fun for what it is: Big dopey monsters fighting it out, clunkystyle.

Theres special moves for everyone, and its not a bad game all-in-all.   I prefer Asuka 120%

girls > monsters.  :D

Its not very good at all, but it was the best G game by far until the Gamecube one came out, which is super rad.

It's easily the best fighting game released for the TG-16, and I love it.  It sports decent cut scenes, cute stage select screens with a mini-Godzilla roaming the land and affirming your selection with a mighty roar, lovely backgrounds and character sprites (certainly equal to or better than the SNES title), great tunes and sound effects, and it controls damn well even with only one attack button; the only thing that sucks is that the US version omits the bonus rounds, making it nigh impossible to unlock the upper tier of bosses.

I think the game stinks!!!!!  glad I got the pce version.  Its really not that fun for me.  My favorite part of the game is turning it off!!!  no no  I like the still shots of the monsters and godzillas voice when you select something.  the play controll kinda bites. They dont move smooth either.  Kinda like when you were a kid and made a flip cartoon out of the corner of your math book. They dont even turn around in time and end up jumping backwards. Id rather play asuka burning fest, kabuki itchybutt, or ffs.

I guess I should try out some of the PC-E fighting games eventually...  I have a very small sample of comparison.

What were the bonus stages in the Japanese game?  Godzilla karate chopping a block of diamond?  Beating up a car?

I wasn't too thrilled with it when I first tried it, maybe I'll give it another chance since some of you guys seem to like it.

The "nays" seem to be beating out the "yays" here. Too bad because I grew up with Godzilla and love him something fierce. When Godzilla fell into a volcano at the end of Godzilla 1985 it made me cry as a child. Man, all this talk about fighting monsters makes me want to buy King of the Monsters for my Neo Geo. I wish someone would make a rom hack of that game and somehow put Godzilla in it!

I think the game is f*cking awesome. Does a great job with only one attack button-- each character has lots of special combo moves. Here's a fair review by my good brother IvaNEC:

Nope, they're quiz rounds unfortunately.  If they were standard feats of strength fare, they wouldn't have needed much translating and would've remained in the US version.

I gave it some thought today and its very true.  they are not martial artists... they are monsters and not only that I think they were keeping true to the monsters movements like in the movies.  That is a fair review I must say.  I the price tag of 12 bucks that I payed is worth it but not the duo price tag

They couldn't translate the trivia into English?

That is pretty f*cking weak...  really, how hard would it be to translate 100 lines of text?

With TTI's resources at the time? Pretty much impossible. This was basically a mail order only game that almost certainly lost money, even as it was.
