I had the PCE version back in 1998... was not too impressed with it.  very simple action fighting.  but it is A LOT better than that other fighting junk:  Martial Champions or something.. man that was the worst shiet.  next to Strip Fighter 2 that is.

I just got done playing some Godzilla, and I am kind of up in the air on whether or not it is a good game.

Pros:
Lots of Monsters
Super XII!!!
Fun and simple
The multi-roar after each stage as your total score tallies is hilarious
Awesome vs. fighting when you have a friend around

Cons:
Why only one attack button?  Jump should be up!
Why do I need to reset the game after I beat it?
Only using the same cheap combo seems to work, no variety
Graphics could've been better

Comparing this game to the NES Godzilla makes me very happy this is a fighting game, and not that pile of shit.  But compared to Primal Rage or King of the Monsters, there is a lot more that could've been done here.  In the end, I think this game is a good diversion once in a while, and at least it's not Fighting Street!

Any game that they were too cheap to translate the dialog into English which makes it near impossible to beat sure doesn't sound that cool. Maybe they didn't have the resources but any game that I can't beat because of programming = sucks. Maybe if they quit rushing incomplete games to market they could have lasted longer.

It's still beatable, you just can't unlock all of the monsters.  It's definitely too bad, though, as it would've been easy to adjust the point requirements down or the bonus points given at the end of each round up.

What are the fighters on TG16? Fighting Street, Godzilla and...? Not much comp there.

I still don't get it...  I imagine it took nearly as much effort to remove the trivia game as it would've to translate the game.  Some of the programmers on the site may want to correct me on this...  but this sounds like really simple stuff!

Yeah...

Thankfully the PCE CD made up for that severely.  Those fighters all seriously needed to be released on the TG-CD also.

Not even close.
1) You say translate, but there's a lot more to it than that....
   A) Cultural references have to be fixed.
   B) The way questions are phrased has to be adjusted. (All your base...)

Assuming that goes well, and you have the questions converted to something an english-speaking person can understand, then you have to worry about presentation:
   A) As 1 kanji character can translate to a complete word in english, you have to store all the questions.
   B) Then, you have to make sure each and every question will fit on the screen, in a pleasing mannner,
which essentially means re-writing -all- the display code.

Assuming that goes well, then you have to figure out where you're going to save all this. In english, its probably 4 to 5 times as large, so some kind of compression is needed, which also has to be written. And all of the code has to be shrunk to make room for the new text....

Get the picture?

As for removing the Trivia game?  Comment out 1 line of code (ie, RunTriviaGame() ), and you're done. :-)

And it probably didn't make much sense economically, either. It's not an integral part of the game, so it is hard to justify a team of people working on it for a month vs 1 quick change almost anyone could make.

If Tenchi o Waruo qualifies as a fighter, then I would say it's one of the best :)

Double fail!  :P

We're talking about vs. fighters not scrolling hack 'em ups, and that's not a TG-16 game.

Nah. In the hacker scene, yeah, being able to meaningfully edit the game's code is the biggest challenge, but these people had access to the source and everything. Meanwhile, translating stuff requires...being able to translate it in general, being able to understand the Godzilla nerd slang that is probably present in these triva questions, and then of course all that jazz with formatting text and such that always goes on with these kind of things.

It would have been pretty easy to just turn the trivia questions "off", especially if they just had the Japan side do it (likely).

And it probably didn't make much sense economically, either.

The way they did things obviously didn't make sense economically if they went bankrupt. Maybe making complete games instead of incomplete ones like this and so many others the system could have caught on? Night Creatures looks cool but as a kid if any of my buds played it sure didn't convince them a Turbo was the system to get. There were tons of games like that.
