Questions about Super Grafx
« on: August 28, 2010, 01:56:49 AM »
Could anyone tell me what this is?

Also, I was wondering if region modded Super Grafx consoles can play all games properly or would it have problems playing certain titles?

A mod to enable VGA output?

I was thinking the same thing, but I'm use to them being blue
The port is also a male port. Aren't all vga ports female?

Probably RGB-- VGA connectors are not 9 pin, they are 15 pin. At the very least, it is certainly not VGA.

Couldn't that be a controller port?  That seems like a ghey position for an RGB port.

i dunno but a hundred bucks that it was going for wasnt a bad deal.  It looks like a rs252 input which is a control input

+1 here for a standard RGB mod.

I have seen this connector used many times.

fixed.

Its probably just an RGB mod.  I too have seen that connector often.

Or its some dev-hacker's serial mod that does something cool that we dont know about

Also, I was wondering if region modded Super Grafx consoles can play all games properly or would it have problems playing certain titles?

I have read about Aldynes freezing at the intro bit and Space Harrier having problems on region modded supergrafx consoles.

However, to this date, I've never actually heard anyone here verify the above, and even if such were the case, by modifying the mod itself (putting in a another switch for the pin29 of the IC chip when regions over),  I can't see a logical reason why this would happen.

I think it was Michael Helgesen who confirmed this problem. As much as I can't stand the guy, he would be a somewhat verifiable source. I think it had to be a SGX hooked to a SuperCDROM2 to produce the error.

Its somewhere in the annals of the forum. Good luck finding it.

Hm.  I actually sold him my SGX -- don't recall him actually modding it though.  I actually recall him being a bit adverse to the idea of modding it.  But perhaps he did.  Not sure.  :-k

Anyway, I *think* I got that info from D-Lite's website, which is certainly a reputable source -- it's just that I can't verify 100% if my memory is accurate.

Though again, I can't see the logical reason why this would happen to a region modded supergrafx IF you put in enough switches so electronic schematic wise, you can technically have it running [/i]exactly[/i] the same as if the system was unmodded while it's running in Japanese region mode.  There's no way the system can verify that it's modded as long as you put in a switch for the GND/+5v switch on the region lockout pin.

Yeah, I think the issue was with systems that had that extra pin grounded all the time.

And yes, my memory about this is crap as well.
