MICHAEL HELGESON PLEASE READ REGARDING THE PCE CD TOP!
« on: July 25, 2005, 10:12:36 AM »
Okay it looks like I will need the extra CD top you have for a PCE CD unit! I tried bleaching mine and it was looking better after a day but I did something stupid by diping a green rag in nail polish remover and adding a little salt and wiping. It made it white instantly, but I started to wipe hard and it is eating the plastic off... NOT GOOD! If you still have that PCE CD top, I will GLADLY pay for the shipping as you mentioned! Please contact me quickly, I'm in need of major PCE help!!!

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

and I will send you a pic of the shell.inside and out.Its in almost near mint shape for the most part.Im sure it will cost maybe 5 or 6 bucks to send priority mail.No more then that.

Yes I freaked out for a few minutes. I thought it was going to work too because I wipped just a little bit on one part I believe the day before and it made it nice and white instantly and felt smooth. Michael sent me pictures of his CD top and it looks wonderful, so I am okay again now. Although I have found out screwing back in those tiny screws into the piece of metal that helps hold the CD top when it's up is going to be really hard.

holy cr :( p. At first I thought you were joking.  Acetone (nail polish remover) is never the way to go for plastics... most things have a warning on them about not using solvents on plastic.

Don't tempt fate again!  I'd rather have a functional system instead of a nice-looking system any day :).

I am NEVER going to do this again; I well learned my lesson. By the way, I don't think it's quite as bad as I described it (you might actually think it looks nice in pictures), but it does quite disturb me. I sent Michael money earlier today using Pay Pal so I should be receiving it soon.

Yea,I will be doing alot of shipping from the ebay auctions this coming Monday or Tuesday, which is when I will be sending out your cd drive shell.Pretty much trying to let people make payments so I can do most of the shipping in one day.I pre fill out all the shipping labels, delivery confirmation and so on,so that helps save time at the post office,at least.
Yea,nail polish is evil.Oops is too.We used Oops to clean Snes carts back when I managed a game store, and found that when used on black abs plastic, like Genesis systems and games,it would cause this melting looking damage to the plastic.Normal orange cleaner works good, but wont really get the white to shine out real well.Mainly just bleach. That is your only hope, when it comes to PC engine faded yellow.
O yea, going to add this to my post here. There is a plastic restorer, made by Novis, that we laserdisc collectors use to keep the disc shiny new looking.Novis makes different grades of the tsuff, but basically you can use it on ANYTHING! It does a great job of bring out a better look on old plastic. You can buy the stuff on ebay.Much cheaper then from the factorys website.

You seem to know quite a bit about cleaning products on video games. You should charge people for cleaning video game stuff for them :D .

Hey Michael since you're the resident laser disc expert, do you have any spare Laseractive games laying around that you want to sell or know of any sites other than ebay to find them?  I just bought one and the games seem to rarely show up on ebay.  Some douche outbid me by 2 f'n pennies on Space Berserker last week, it was crushing.

The replacement part is being sent tomarrow.Keep a eye out for it.On the LD subject.Laseractive systems sucked. They used the worst of the worst on LD laser readers, subject to breakdown like any other cheap player. They have no comb filter, which is a must if you care anything about LD's,and the games are all simple. The stuff released on that set-up was done better genere wise on other systems. The only game I see worth having fo rit is maybe the prototype Myst if I remember right, because it was mostly a finished game. But it was laden with problems, and the 3DO version looked better.Laseractive even goes pretty cheap, still too much to me,but cheap none the less. The only part you will pay alot for is the Nec module. Also,NEC themselves made a clone of the laseractive set-up,and it pretty much l;ooks just like the Pioneer player. All in all, avoid it.Its not worth it.Not for a few FMV crap titles nobody needs to play.

Japan Game stock has a complete laseractive system, with every module I think, incase anyone was wondering. The other thing I forgot to mettion,Laser Active does not do AC-3.You would have to mod it,and use a demodulater for the AC-3 to work.

The only real game related laserdisc item I have is a copy of Salamander anime, the first one,on LD.This and, lol, the dreaded Tron Boxset.Has extras worth looking at if nothing else.Better collector item then the dvd release too.I just avoid laseractive,at all cost. The reason the games are so hard to find for it to begin with is because they only sold the damn thing in a few major cities.Everyone else did mail order for it.
