Zeon, I didn't know about the more recent NEZplug++. Thanks.

The thing I'm keeping in mind is that top 10 is always based on opinions. And if it isn't too overly obnoxious to throw together a top 10, I expect one or more sets of 10 honorable mentions will follow. I don't expect everyone here to agree with my top 10. I would probably be disturbed if I had consensus, because I'd wonder what the hell happened to everyone in this forum. But I suspect everyone will find SOMETHING to like.

Ootake: File->Output Wave File. Don't think there's a way to do it with mednafen.

I seem to remember doing stuff like that before, where you set your recording device to be wave out, and run both programs (player and recorder) at once....But I'm not positive about it. Been too long.

The wav files output by Ootake are pretty legit.  I use them and then shove them on my Ipod, lol.

That newest NEZplug alteration actually sounds as good as I need it to. It eliminates the overdone noise channel problem and everything else is peachy. Now all I have to do is make adequate time for listening to make the final picks, throw together a playlist, and then dump it all to WAV. Oh, wait, then I need to find some way to capture gameplay. :(

if youre using an emulator:

save video with ootake while playing.

replay video and use HyperCam, etc, to capture it.

if you capture while playing, it'll probably be all jerky and you'll play poorly because of it :-/

Thanks everyone for your track recommendations. As for recording video, I'm going to use PCEjin to record some play segments and use the build in encoder to output to video. PCEjin is the hacked GUI version of Mednafen developed by a few folks on tasvideos.org for their superplays. I suggest checking out the Bonk Tool-Assisted Speedplays people have thrown together there already.

Anyone here know where I can find documentation for the custom m3u format that's used with many HES files?

OK, so after so much agonizing over which tracks to select, I still don't have a definitive list and many of them are starting to sound very much the same to me. Something about the sound library tells me they sound capabilities were criminally underused. Also, there aren't so many memorable melodies. Hell, compared to what was done with the basic NES sound chip, the lack of attention spent to the PC Engine's capabilities is downright criminal.

Also, I still need a heads up about the details of HES m3u formatting.

OK, sorry about that little rant there. I had been listening to far too many tracks and they were all running together in my head (and my ears).

Anyway, I think I have selected the top 10 tracks. In no particular order, they are tracks from:

Magical Chase
Devil's Crush
Parasol Stars
Air Zonk
Bonk's Adventure
Dungeon Explorer
Blazing Lazers
Batman
Dragon Saber
After Burner 2

There were a lot of close contenders. But for now, download the MP3 file and give me some feedback. What would you do differently? How far off/close to the mark am I?

http://www.filedropper.com/top10noorder

Also, if you happen to know formal titles for the tracks or know the level numbers, let me know so I can properly name the tracks.
