Hello!  I currently own two Telegames PC Engine converters for the Turbo Grafx/Duo.  It is red.  You know what I am talking about.

I was just wondering if anyone hears a sort of static sound that plays along with the music.  It's not noticeable, but is audible when the game is paused.  It's not a loud nose.
I tried my regular U.S. Turbografx games without the converter and found that there is sometimes a little static because the sound is from a chip and not a cd.
So I bought a Japanese Dragon Spirit game to compare with my U.S. version that I own.

The U.S. one had no static noise, or very very faint, but the Japanese one through the converter had a uniform buzzing static sound that is better heard when paused.

Do you think it's because the hucard has to go through the converter and not straight into the card slot that it is making those sounds because of interference?
Do you notice it, too?
And because I have two, I know that it's not malfunctioning.  They both give out that sound.  Since I don't have a Japanese PC Engine, I can not compare without converters.

I need your opinions.

Thank you.

Anyway take care.
Let the old mix with the new.

The PCE audio hardware in general is really friggn noisy. Unless its particularly bad I wouldn't assume its anything abnormal. The fact that the different regions of DS sound different is interesting, but there could be some other reason for that since PCE games sometimes go through non-obvious changes and upgrades when they become TG-16 games (see: R Type).

I think the HuCard slot does actually have an analog line on it (can't find a pinout right now) but I don't know if its actually used.

I understand what you are saying.  The sound isn't that bad.  I was wondering why there is a sound on what is the same game.  The only difference in the the Japanese Dragon Spirit other than that static sound is that it is published by Namcot instead of like in the US by NEC.

Let the old mix with the new.
