Cotton
John Madden Duo CD Football
Ys I & II Duo pack-in (sealed)
Forgotton Worlds
Forgotton Worlds (sealed)

They're all brand new, even the ones that aren't sealed.

Cotton was sealed, but the salesman opened it up to make sure that there was a disc inside.

A couple of them have some shelf ware, but only on the outside.

Thats $5 Canadian, no tax.

I'm just glad that I found them before some 'dealer' who'd just auction them off as "super-ultra-rare factory sealed!!!"

How is the TG version of Forgotten Worlds, anyway?  I really enjoyed the Sega Genesis version...

5 bux each, man you got good deals there - isn't Cotton fairly rare?

That's an amazing deal right there. I've only found 3 turbo games in the wild ever and none of them were rare or sealed. I'm curious about that forgotten worlds too. I'm also a fan of the genesis version.

I also loved the Genesis version back when it first came out and thought that it looked and sounded awesome.

I picked up the Turbo CD version as soon as it was released and loved it too, but thought that it was graphically limited in some ways.

For years now, I've bought copies of the Genesis and Megadrive versions and each time they were broken in a unique way, so I couldn't compare them properly until recently.

It turns out that the sections of the Turbo game I thought could've used some additional color are actually more or less arcade perfect. The Turbo CD game is only limited by the source material.

In fact, by 90's standards, the Turbo CD version is more arcade perfect that all those 'arcade perfect' ports like Street Fighter II SNES and the early Capcom to Genesis ports.

As for the Genesis version, after looking at the arcade(on MAME) and Turbo CD games, it looks more like the Sega Master System version.

Really, there's no comparison. Like all the early Capcom arcade to Genesis conversions(like GnG & Strider), it's pretty much drawn from scratch and isn't really a 'port'. And the sound(fx) is also less impressive and/or imperfect.

The Turbo CD game doesn't have independant scrolling backgrounds, but what's the point of scrolling a couple of bland repetative objects? The arcade's scrolling bg's actually don't look so great either. You get a better view of all the art in the Turbo CD game.

And once again, you get a soundtrack thats worth the price alone and is way better than the original.

You also get to choose between Japanese or English cinemas and you can listen to everything in the Sound Test.

There's also an extra level or two that were cut from the Genesis port.

You can check out some comparison screenshots at the bottom of this page from the PC Engine Software Bible-

Damn I wish something like that would happen to me! Isn't the USA version of Cotton supposed to be quite pricey? Anyways, that's insanely awesome.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I first bought Cotton brand new shortly after it came out along with Magical Chase for like $10 each.

On my way home(I bought them in Shelbyville, the one city that had embraced the Turbo) I remember thinking how it was weird to be bring home 2 horizontal witch shooters, since it wasn't a exactly a huge genre.

All of the Cotton games got pricey for a while, but I don't think that the Turbo & PCE versions are too outrageous anymore. But the Turbo game does appear to be truly uncommon since I can't find any history of it on eBay.

Cotton was an awesome game, great find.  I miss my copy of Magical Chase, that was probably the best cute-em-up I've played (well that and Harmful Park on PSX).

Makes you wonder how something sealed can just show up somewhere like that. I wonder who had it before? Is this a thrift store find?

Would be awesome if a few cases of sealed Cotton and Ys showed up somewhere.

Its just old stock that had been marked down to $5 each that someone sold as part of a big lot to a local gaming store that doesn't know anything about Turbografx(and admittedly doesn't care), but sells NES, Genesis & SNES RPG games for up to $100 each.

He was glad that someone who can appreciate it picked them up.

Klax case & manual + Order Of The Griffon = $3
« Reply #11 on: August 06, 2005, 03:56:38 PM »
Today at a local flea market I picked up a near-mint Klax case & manual with a mint Order Of The Griffon HuCard inside(it even has one of those nice textured sleeves which is also in mint condition) for $3(Canadian). :D

I think that I'm probably going to trade it(the HuCard) as well as one of my spare copies of Forgotten Worlds SCD+ my spare copy of the Megadrive version for Turbo games that I'm missing.

Finding Turbo stuff out and about doesn't happen much, but every now and then I'll stumble across something. I found my Turboxpress in a Flea Market. It came with about 25 Hu-Cards, some had cases, some didn't, and the unit was in perfect shape. Paid $25 for all of it. My Sega Nomad I found at an estate sale. It was in a plastic bag with a Genesis Model 2 for $20. Anytime I go places like that, I keep my eyes open, cause you never know. Anytime I find a good deal like these, its always a cool feeling   8)
