Funny but not the case here in Sweden. The employees (spelling?) at Gamestop is either a) nice or b) clueless (it seems that if you look like a handsome mamas boy and know of halo and mario kart wii, then you're hired).

Man this is spot on. 8-12 years ago it wasn't like this. In my hometown most of the people that worked at EB which now is turned into Gamestop, were genuinely pretty cool. I live in a college town now, and these new guys can be dicks.

One day I went in to look at the XBox 360 wall and decided to pick out Army of Two when it first came out. I went to the counter and asked for Army of Two, hesitated for a second and said, "for the 360". The guy next to the person I asked that also worked there said in a sarcastic voice, "Well, yeah, I saw that you were looking at 360 games." I just gave him the Rambo thousand yard stare for 5 seconds and said "Yes, the 360!". He got a little nervous as the other guy rang it up. This guy looked like the geeky kid with bad breath and shit his pants in high school. What the hell kind of confidence can he possibly have?!?! I wanted to say, I bet I know a lot more about games than you ever have you cock-smoker, so don't talk to me like I'm a dumbass.... but that wouldn't really sound right, lol. I guess he thought I was like most customers that don't know too much about games and dared to put me in that category. He didn't expect me to look at him with such intimidation.

I'm a bartender man, you gotta show no signs of weakness when people pull that shit. I would have people threaten me, be smart asses, act dumb to get out of paying tabs, you name it. The best thing to do is not apologize if you did nothing wrong and 1-up them in a cleaver, yet humble way.

Anyway, I think most of those guys are gone at that store and now I see decent people that work there.

Well, the cleaver is intimidating, but ultimately ineffective.
for maximum damage, you should stick with the machete or bowie knife.

that aside, I worked at gamestop for about 3 months back when i was in high school.
i gotta say, it sucked harder working for them than dealing with their bullshit as a customer, at least then you could walk out.
plus, there was the "part timers can't do trade ins" bullshit, so I'd be in the middle of ringing up a line of customers, then the manager would basically tell me to f*ck off and stop doing my job so that he could do it.

yeah, it sucked, plus, they don't pay above minimum wage until after like a year, or if you're management.

on the upside, i recently started working at an area chain of game/music/dvd stores that are pretty sweet.
again, they pay minimum wage for a while, but you can earn bonuses and stuff based on sales for the month.
the regional manager is pretty cool too, he's a big game collector, so he's not a total failure in that department, so he makes it a point that all of the store under his command are good there.
plus, if someone brings in something you want while you're working, it's apparently no big deal if you offer them a little more from your own pocket so you can buy it yourself
