Emulation can't compare to the real thing. Either accuracy issues, not using the real controller, or picture and sound differences tend to bother me with emulation. Though it's better than going without playing great classic games at all.

My biggest issue with [Turbo] emulation is the sound inaccuracy. Graphically most things seem to be 1:1 these days, but emulator authors have a long way to go to properly emulate the Turbo's sound chip. Even with the closest emulation, PSG music comes across as tinny, scratchy, and lacking bottom end. And the Turbo's PSG needs all the help it can get in the bottom end department.

That's exactly what I use. My 32in crt that I got in 1998 only supports composite and s-video, but it's still as good as ever.

SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.

My set needs to warmup sometimes, it starts out a little blurry. I am afraid a repair would be insane though who repairs CRT's anymore? Lol the TV is badass so it kinda sucks.

No doubt.  I hear you, though after getting a USB saturn pad, the controller issue is a lot less of an issue for me now.

The emulation inaccuracies are still there, and for some systems, I couldn't think of replacing the real hardware due to these inaccuracies (Sega Saturn for one), but for most 8 & 16 bit systems, it's getting to the point where it's starting to become a viable alternative to real hardware for me.  Especially when I have too many systems taking up shelf space with 50,000 different wires running behind the TV.

Software, on the other hand, I'll still purchase the ones I like as long as it's practical (that is, it doesn't go for crazy sums), as I like having a physical copy with manual, maps, and all that  (That's even for cartridge/card software).

Before getting my duo-r I was using magic engine with a tg-16 usb pad. Its really good but I started to notice a very slight lag in the input. I'd play Alien crush and I would seem to be missing the ball  all the time. I'm talking very very slight delay, if it wasnt for the pinball game I probably would never have noticed it.

Im not sure if it is the retrozone usb kit, that PC, or magic engine. I'm too lazy to plug the tg16 pad in another pc and look in to it more, because I have my duo-r now :)

20" Toshiba CRT. Had a real nice 27" Toshiba CRT that bite the dust last spring and am missing it. Tried for a while on a 37" Toshiba LCD but it just didn't look nice at all. I now have the two TVs side by side so I can have them both hooked up to my surround sound. The 37" LCD for my PS3 and my 20" CRT for my Duo-R.

I just got handed down my folks old 36" CRT TV :P  Its big, and rediculously heavy, but it works great for retro gaming!

Well Nestopia and BSNES do excellent jobs for sure. But there are still things that bother me with emulation versus the real thing. It can be a hassle having alot of systems taking up space and having alot of wires I guess. The way I have things set up is I have all my modern consoles (360, PS3, Wii) hooked up to a nice 32" LCD. All my classic stuff (NES, SNES, Genesis, PCE, PS1, Saturn) is hooked up to my RGB monitor. It is kind of a mess with those 6 systems all on this tiny shelf. But I've got it organized enough that it's not a huge deal. I had to reorganize recently when my PCE joined them.

To put it simply, I could have just emulated PCE with my PC on my 32" LCD TV with Mednafen or whatever else. Instead I spent a few hundred bucks buying a PCE DUO-R that was RGB modded along with some games. If emulation got it done for me, I would have spent the money on something else.

Yeah... lots of CRTs do that, I have a very nice Sharp 27" X-Flat TV that does it too, but the picture is still beautiful to look at. I've had nice RCA Entertainment Series sets, 32" and 36" that had perfect straight lines. Great TVs. I gave them away, to my regret today.

Hello everyone

I play my Turbo duo on a Sony NX810 55" LED TV. Passed through my Onkyo 608 Receiver up converted to 1080p. Has the bars on the side but Dracula x and Bonk look pretty sweet  :D
