Suggestions wanted on mod
« on: December 10, 2010, 03:26:28 AM »
I posted this in another thread, but figured I'd give it it's own in case it's getting skimmed by, and in the interest of not toally hijacking a different thread

I really think that I want to RGB mod my TG-CD base.

I haven't cracked the case yet, but it seems like it would be pretty easy to tap the CD base side of the expansion bus, run it to an amp and get RGB out. However, the thing that I'm struggling with a bit, even after reading a ton of RGB posts here and around the net is what to do for a port. I'd like to make the mod look at professional as possible, and was thinking about several options:

1. Component jacks - I think that this would be nice to just be able to plug component cables directly into my CD base, but I'd need a board like the JROK (sp?) inline to convert the RGB signal, correct?

2.DIN8 - I could then use a DIN to SCART and then a SCART to HDMI or Component converter, correct?

3. Other - ???

Also, I'm pretty sure that since the CD base has RCA for sound and composite video already, those would still be useable, so I'd really only need to tap the RGB signal and get it to the connector of my choosing?

Any suggestions on how some of you might tackle this?

I was thinking the same thing, nice round hole to make and should be able to easily get DIN 8 to SCART cables from what I can tell. Just need a converter then to get the signal to my TV.

I'm excited to try this mod based on the pictures that people have posted, and I know that things like that always look better in person.

For mine I'm just going to stick a SCART connector on the side of my PCE IFU, then run it to this convertor.

Have you done the mod and used that converter yet? I'm interested to see how well one of those works, as I have seen them for pretty decent prices.

Not yet. I have to wait until I can afford the converter.

I have an amp built. Just don't have anything that will accept the signal unless I chop up a scart cable or run the system open. I initially had it hooked up to a vga connector as RGsB, but my monitor (supporting RGsB) didn't respond to the signal.

the RGsB signal that you hooked up to wants 31khz or higher frequency, the Duo is going to output 15khz, so therefore that won't work. I know I tried that once too.  ](*,)

Also I recommend the Atlona RGB to YUV converters. I haven't tried the HDMI converters and would be concerned that it would put it in widescreen mode or something goofy. Upconverting to 720p is not going to give you a better picture.

Yea, I really didn't care that it it up converted to 720p, cause my receiver is gonna up convert it to 1080p anyways and all that does for me is make my monitor nice and happy. On a side note, whatever chipset my receiver uses to upscale, it refuses to upscale or de-interlace signal from a Super or regular Famicom. Since my monitor dosen't accept 480i (It comes in pink), i'm hoping that that SCART to HDMI will generate signal it will like.

As far as RGB to YUV, I have a SCART to YPbPr but it doesn't work very well with my receiver. I use it for the dreamcast and the sega saturn. It probably would work with the PC-Engine.
