I'm doing this to avoid the fees after all. Gotta look at total cost of it here. And as typical for less "popular" systems, Turbo stuff had horrid regional distribution. Much harder to find in certain parts of the country...

Almost every single NEC system or game that changes hands in the US these days is purchased on eBay or in some other way over the internet and sent through the mail. It was that way before eBay, with TZD, Die Hard, Buy Rite, etc being the only places to buy stuff in the mid 90s. In Japan its different, but almost nobody in this country is going into a store and buying this stuff. Therefore, regional distribution kind of doesn't apply to these kinds of things like it applies to...automobiles or arcade machines, for example (which people don't like to ship, so they stay semi-local).

A good clean Duo is about $250 now I think, but this one doesn't have the correct controller or a HuCard slot door (WTF happens to these things!?). The pic isn't very high quality, so its hard to tell, but the system also looks kind of grungy. On the plus side it has the original power supply and what looks like the original AV cable (as opposed to that piece of shit TZD sold) so I'd say $150 or so, max, for the system.

I suppose you're right. There's too few Duos in circulation to really peg it down well. Making me open to quite some leeway on this one. If anything keeps the price a bit high, it's my strong confidence in this unit's reliability. All CD systems have moving parts that wear down. That's unavoidable.

The hard-to-find converter is for playing import PC Engine hucards, on a US Turbografx. I don't know their current selling price.
I knew what it was for I just didn't know what the price runs for one. Sorry about that

140.  Things beat.   To me if the person is looking for an american duo. they prolly would want to find one in better shape and w a door.  The games really dont carry any weight.  I love the games dont get me wrong but they arent worth that much.  I dont think any collector would touch this and I think this woould be a cool starter set for someone just getting into it.  Now that considered.  What new collector is going to dump a grip of money into something that they may not stay with after 6 mos?  Plus its a duo. things prolly gunna brake. plus they have to pay for shipping.  But good luck at three bills

Its not too bad a system :P  It'd make a great beater play unit.  The one you toss in your backpack to head over to a buddy's house kind of unit.  The one to tinker with and regiod mod, and LED mod, and RGB mod, and whatever mod

As far as reliability.. I think we've got duo's pretty well pegged as far as repairing them.  They seem much more restorable than TG16/CD units (hopefully we'll change this soon!!)

In any event, good luck with the sale!

Don't mind it. Like I said in the first post, lack of research. I honestly did not know how much smaller its library of american games was.

Thanks. What I should do here is lift the (understandable) veil of skepticism, given the issues often encountered by US CD drives. I admit us users with few posts don't carry much weight. So I need some more convincing way to make readers accept the fact that this system *does* work. Not easy in the era of photoshopping, etc.

I dont think anyone is doubting the fact that the system works fine.  I'm sure it does.  I think the skepticism comes as a result of the poor reputation duos have for breaking down a lot.  It may work fine today, but there is the fear that very soon it will break down.  Guys like me who have figured out how to fix them arent as worried about that stuff, but I can understand someone erring on the side of caution if they dont have the means to repair a system when it fails.

Oh! Now I get it! THAT makes sense. Japanese ones must be more of an improvement than I thought. I guess they gave us cheaper parts here across the pond?

no Japanese Duos are just as prone to caps/laser failure as the US ones but at least the Japanese got the improved Duo-R/RX and the US didn't. That's why when it comes to Duos most would rather get a Duo-R/RX unless they just HAVE to play american turbochip titles.

Or they just love the uber sexy look of the sleek all black US duo :P  And there's always the region mod if needed

Oddly enough I was at a physical retail store in the United States that had a Duo for sale a few weeks ago, when I returned this weekend it was sold. And your price estimate was correct, it was 250.00.
