Lovin this place!
« on: January 19, 2011, 06:21:18 AM »
Hey Everyone,

Just got my account activated not long ago on here, thought I would post my first now. So wat brought me here?
I had a Turbo when I was young, and I recently had a nostalgia bug to play some Turbo Grafx 16 games maybe 3 weeks ago. I downloaded an emu and some roms to bring some memories. Oddly enough. one of the roms was Street Fighter 2 CE, which was my favorite game in the early 90's. But everyone here knows, that game didnt exist in North America for the TG16, so I sold it and bought an SNES. To my amazement, the PCE port of SF2CE is impressive.

That being said, the bug hit to get one of these units hit, and playing SF2CE was a necessity. So Google brought me here.....

So in the last 3 weeks, what has happened?

I bought a TG16 locally, used, with Keith Courage. One controller. Standard North American Combo
I ordered SF2CE from someone on ebay, 13$ I think
I ordered some game bits on ebay
I ordered some IC's and built a region mod pcb (i dabbled in projects like this in the past, so I was comfortable with it)
I received my SF2CE Hu 2 days ago
I received the game bits last night
I opened the console and installed the mod last night

Everything works. Let the collecting begin!

Thanks you all for contributing to this forum, it helped this new collector get started.  I'll see if I can share some pics with you all to show you what I did.

Later

Welcome aboard the crazy train!  Now ya need some extra controllers (two of which should have six-buttons to play Street Fighter 2 properly), a tap, and Bomberman '93/'94 and Dungeon Explorer so you can tap into the multiplayer awesomeness.

Yeah, already browsing for an Avenue 6 pad. As far as multiplayer, most people I know wouldn't understand why I'm playing with this, but for the sake of collecting, I will probably pick up some extra controllers and a tap. Don't think the wife will ever play.

Now what you REALLY need is a CDROM add on or a Duo system.. :P  Once you break into the CD world you never go back.

One more thing you'll need to do is to something about being able to use the 6 button controllers on the TG16.

You can grab converter cable, or mod a Duo/PCE multiplayer tap so that it fits in to the TG16 controller port.

There is no such thing as a converter cable that allows you to play PCE/Turbo Duo controllers on a T-16. It's the other way around. You would have to mod a PCE tap or controller by switching out the wires and using a T-16 compatible end plug. There are some guides that can guide you through that process if you are feeling adventurous and/or consider yourself a techie.

SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.

Well, outside of getting some games, my next step is an AV mod, so I can connect this thing anywhere.
I have an old Commodore 1084s ( I used to use it to test my Arcade JAMMA boards, so I needed a true RGB monitor) so an RGB mod is probably coming soon.

I feel some guilt in butchering the console, but I guess I can always buy a complete boxed one, should a steal come along. Anyone else feel bad about it?

Yeah, an RGB mod is the only real true way to play the PCE/TG. Atm I'm just using S-Vid though :(

But you better get yourself a PCE DUO asap, and do all the mods on that. The restriction of not being able to play CD games will make you unhappy very soon.
