Anyone ever use the Avenue 6 pad as their everyday pad?

I did for years until I picked up my first Blaster 3-button pad. I'd still use the Ave 6 as my everyday pad if it had a 3-button mode instead of just 2 and 6.

Only the connector on the end of the cable is different.

Don't forget the lack of turbo switches.

How does the third button on that controller work? Does it simply remap start or select? I've always wanted a three button pad for Forgotten Worlds, and NSCX has some of the Blasters right now. I was a little sad when I got my Ave 6 and it didn't have a 3 button mode.

I like the Hori pad, but haven't been able to score one.  Anything that resembles an SNES pad must be good though right?

Some copies of Forgotten Worlds were indeed packaged with NEC's three button pad. The switch remaps the "start" (or is it "select"?) button. Anyway, it was a nice big box. I have one somewhere (I moved four years ago and have yet to unpack everything). I'll take a pic if I find it.

A long time ago, at the magicengine forum, I was compiling a list of games that benefitted from the three-button pad. Unfortunately, the magicengine forums crashed and we lost ~2+ years worth of conversation (apparently, the most "recent" back-up of the forum was pretty old).

I'd love to create another "Games that benefit from a three-button pad" mini-FAQ. I think I'll start a thread.

:)

avenue 3 remaps the 3rd button to select.
Dracula X uses it as the "item crash" thing.

Actually, there should be a toggle switch that will tell Button III to either duplicate Run or Select.

Only the connector on the end of the cable is different.

True, but the FX pad has those switches anyway... They toggle between "Mode" A and B. I'm not sure if they really do anything at all as all the buttons all seem to behave the same in Mode B as Mode A.

Dang.  I've always wanted an RX pad (the only pad with a dedicated turbo switch for button VI!  ) and until now I don't think anyone has complained on these forums.

I used the Avenue 6 for a while.  It's easy on the thumb, but the D-Pad is kind of mushy and the lack of precision makes it difficult to pull off special moves in SF2.  The Hori pad is precise and comfortable, but the shared switch for buttons I and VI has always been a pet peeve...not that there's a single game where it would be a problem.

Really? I love the Avenue 6, and it's deceptively comfortable on the hands. I was originally intimidated by it, but it was my first PCE controller even before a 2-button so i got used to it quickly. I found it really easy to do the specials, and noted to a friend that it was much easier than the snes controller.

I think that the Hori Pad is a pile of Junk, capital J, and found it to be as stiff and unresponsive as everyone here has been complaining about the RX pad. To each their own.

So I picked up a slightly yellowed PC-FX pad the other day. It turns out that internally it's nothing like a PCE pad. So I did a hardware hack using the IC from a crusty non-turbo PCE pad. It's just a simple hack using buttons I and II only. No turbo or anything and the other 4 buttons do nothing.

Anyway, it's not bad. I have a real RX pad back in the US and that was OK too. It just needs a bit of breaking in. I think it also depends on how you use your dpad. Some people like to lift and press their thumb on different directions, and others like to keep their thumbs in the center and rock the dpad back and forth. I'm a rocker :D
