WTB a pc-engine/coregrafx....
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:03:59 PM »
I'm looking for a pc-engine system or any other variant with one controller and power cord. I just want to play some Japan hucards. I prefer a US seller for cheap shipping. I've been looking on ebay but shipping from japan seems to be out of my budget. I would buy loose hucards also. Let me know!  :P

Have you got a US system?  Maybe you'd rather just get a region mod done :P  Or if for some reason you dont have a CD capable system (I thought you did tho) just spend the extra to pick up a Duo-R or RX.

I don't really want to do the region mod. I have a hard time taking apart a system that works fine. Plus I need an excuse to get another system . I have a crappy homemade converter but it is real finiky and getting worse, also it looks really ghetto.

I was thinking of getting a pc-engine and i would have the start of a briefcase system (which I really want). I'm kinda broke, so if I could find a DUO-R for $130-140 or less I would go that route. SO many options...... But I think I want a dedicated Japan hucard system to start. I prefer the white one so It'll match the CD player when I get the rest of the system. But I'm not too picky about cosmetic condition or color as long as it functions. $40-$60? Is that too low of an offer if anyone has one?

I can understand not wanting to chop up a working system :P  If you cant find a nice Duo-R on the cheap, maybe consider a Core Grafx or Core Grafx II just because they have built in composite.  If you do plan on getting a briefcase setup, the white will match better and you will get composite out from the IFU.  But the reliability of the CDROM2 units would make me leary of going that route :)

So many choices, so many decisions!  Personally I have a US Turbo Duo that I've replaced the caps / laser on and done a region mod on.  Plays everything but SGX games and works great :D

Also, what kind of converter do you have?

My converter is made up of plastic, duct tape, and various wires. Over time I have added cardboard, electrical tape, more wires and even a block of wood. It still is a real pain in the azz to get working properly. I was going to try to make another one that wasn't so ugly to look at. But instead I am ready to get a PC-engine (eventually a briefcase). I think it would look really good next to my tg16-CD system. It would be nice to have 2 cd drives for the long term in case one dies beyond repair.
Anyone (in the U.S.) have a PC-engine for cheap? Let me know your price.

You probably don't want an OG (white) PCE since they only have RF out and whether or not your American TV can tune to its signal is total luck. Many do, many don't. Also, RF looks shitty of course. Get a Core Grafx 1 or 2.

Or a Super Grafx would accomplish the same goal.  Although getting on of those in your price range would be tough.

oh ok. I'll dig it up and get a pic up this weekend. But keep in mind I made it years ago before I ever found this website. It was when I was reading about the different pin slots (or whatever you call them) and I had some JP games, so i built it as fast I could with what ever was lying around. I'm sure I could make a better looking and functioning one today. I have no problem making an azz out of myself for you guys to be amused.   8-[

If it works, there's nothing to be ashamed of; what's on the screen is of primary importance.  :)

Update-2/27/11
I'm still looking for a pc-engine (yellow and scratched is OK!) or also I prefer a complete briefcase setup with a working Cd-rom. Please let me know if any has one or knows of one for sale somewhere at a fair price. I might consider a DUO-R (scratched and yellow is ok). Thanks!!
