Tokyo trip, site stuff & games...
« on: August 21, 2005, 04:52:06 PM »
Hi people,

First off, sorry for not getting the long-overdue Pcenginefx TV Ep.5 out.  Work has been crazy lately, and my media-production "hobby" has grown to the point where I'm getting paid for my work, so stuff for the site has been put on the backburner.

Coming up in September, my wife and I will be headed for Tokyo & HK (her home town) which I am very excited about as I have never been to Japan yet (if you can believe it!).  Really ironic in a way...never been to Japan and can't read Japanese...but have the largest site for a purely Japanese console..man, how did I do it??

Anyway, not all is fun and games...well, actually it is - my wife has a booth at the Tokyo Game Show and I have all-access admission (you can hate me now...heh).  I'm really looking forward for the chance to play the latest and greatest for the PS3, Xbox 360 and more....

But going to Japan of course I must ask the question - where would be the best places to hit in Akihabara?  I tried to search the good ol' Turbo List, but it seems to be down at the moment.  I will have about 6 hours in that area and want to make the most of it.  I have heard of some used game stores but don't have the slightest idea which ones to hit..so any help would be great.

they usually have festival almost every month it seems...
if you can make the visit to coincide with one of festival you will have a blast... (except hana matsuri where all you do is getting drunk it seems...)

also since you are going to Tokyo don't forget to drop by Yokohama...
you can check out China town there and minamintoxxx or what ever hell its called - a small amusement park really...

you should be able to move about using subway system once you figure out how to buy the ticket... (don't expect the station manager to speak English, they don't) Their system is fairly logical though when you have to walk 50 meters underground to switch lines you gotta wonder what the hell... :D

I don't like akihabara coz it's dame expensive nowadays...
I'd recommend den den town near Namba station at Osaka - not too far away using shinkansen... and while you are visiting Osaka why not check out Nara... (have a fun trying to escape the underground maze under the Namba station. I spend literally half day underground....)

well.. enough rambling... :p

Man if I was in Osaka, I'd check out Neo Geo Land and Neo Geo Bowl. I know there are two Neo Geo Bowls and I think one of them is in Osaka, but there is another somewhere else. That would rule.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

You did cuz you LOVE it. Nuff said  8)

Hell I once thought about doing a board on strictly Famicom and Super Famicom.

But yeah I'm really happy for ya! I once almost got an opportunity to go to Japan with my fighting gaming buddies, for that annual "Super Battle Opera" tournament in Tokyo, but I was too sick to go. They got an extra ticket reserved for one more person, and I was one of the candidates.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys - my wife and I have been planning what we will be doing during our week there and here is what we have so far:

Sept. 11 - Arrive in Tokyo, hotel in Shinjuku.
Sept. 12 - Tsujiki Fish Market, Odaiba, Ginza, Ahibahara, Kabukicho
Sept. 13 - Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuki
Sept. 14 - Wife needs to setup for the Tokyo Game Show
Sept. 15-17th - TGS

We probably won't be able to hit Osaka (sob!), but we have limited time so we are trying to hit everywhere we can that is somewhat in the same area.

I really doubt I will buy many games since it is my first time going to Japan... I mostly want to bring back some wacky stuff....we will see :)

Although it's probably too late to make plans to meet anyone, due to a recent last minute thing at work, I'm going to be at the Tokyo Game Show too!

I'm leaving for Tokyo on Friday and I can't believe I'm actually making the trip.

Hopefully with any luck, I'll run into Aaron and finally meet the man responsible for pcenginefx.com. :)
