The Smithsonian is going to have a game exhibit next year and they left out the TG16. during the bit war era.  We all know that it started with the turbo and the Genny.  You can comment and let them know that they are screwing up a major part of gaming history.  THNX    http://www.artofvideogames.org/  go to the bottom of the page and click on the let us know what you think and let em have it!!!

Yeah, that is bogus, T-fan. For the Combat/Strategy Award nominees, that spot just screams for Military Madness. Urgh

I posted a comment on the page, hopefully the admins will approve it.
SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.

I replied as well.  I think the Smithsonian's exhibit should be called "Sponsored by Nintendo"

9 Toy Story 3
10 Spider-Man
11 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
12 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
13 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
14 Spider-Man 2
15 The Passion of the Christ
16 Jurassic Park
17 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

We obviously have a bias opinion here at pcenginefx but the turbo grafx did make a very large contribution to the video game world. It was the first CD system. So If we told that to the Smithsonian bastards they would have to put it in

I already sent them that info.  lol but its fact!!  I saw a special on tv called the history of video games and they skipped over the turbo as well as the "first cd system"  They said it was the genny.  But its not just that.  its the frikkin games!!!!!  Shooter cadagory??!?!  I dunno  I just dont want people to look at the turbo the same way they look at the noun or something.  We all need to send them a message........ yes! lol send a message to washington!   Either obey or get off the pot!

If the Turbo is so important and wonderful, why don't you guys know jack shit about it yourselves?

(except for Black Tiger, who is a genuine Turbo warlord and can say pretty much anything he wants, unlike the goons who praise the Turbo up and down without ever experiencing even 5% of its library)

What did we expect, seriously!

the Turbo has been ignorantly forgotten/misrepresented by the western gaming world for awhile now.

Watch them finally decide to mention it.  I can see it now.  A big sign that says

TURBO GRAPHIX-16
With a johnny turbo cardboard standee, the entire US setup, and Fighting Street running.

:)

Misrepresented?  Do you remember NEC's bold "GAME OF THE MONTH" marketing plan that they pulled out during their fiercest months of competition?  Is history supposed to look back on Falcon, Drop Off, Battle Royale, Yo Bro, and Talespin with a smile?  Because those were like all the Turbo was coming out with each month.

And even worse, NEC's genius "GAME OF THE MONTH" marketing plan assured us that friggin' Battle Royale was the ONLY game we were getting that month.

I meant misrepresented today when people look back on the system.  They misspell the name, don't reference any of the good games, neglect the importance of it's CD addon, and never mention how great HuCards are.

Lots of hipster editorials gloss over it as a piece of crap.  Its definitely not a piece of crap!

Speaking of spelling the name wrong, I remember seeing the Duo for the first time at CES '92.  I knew about the TurboGrafx of course, but the combined thing was new.  And looking at the name emblazoned on the system.......

"They're calling it the TurboDud ?  They must not expect anyone to buy it."

The huge Gate of Thunder display was pretty incredible though.

Other than the CD factor, Turbo is but an asterik in console history.

Not that that prevents me from enjoying the system, but it is what it is.

Emerald Rocker, with his Bartles & Jaymes in hand, is visiting just to tease us. Don't feed him (and the alcohol will go straight to his head).  :)

I will investigate further, but here is a response in the comments from "Chris Melissinos" one of the curators(?):

Quote
Jay, believe me when I say I understand. In several interviews I discuss the issues around having to work within limits (20 systems for this exhibition) and having to leave out systems I personally loved. The TG-16 was one of my favorite systems of all time. I remember the awesome music from Keith Courage when first fired up, even though the game was pretty bad. From shmups to Dracula X, the TG-16 was amazing for those of us who made up the passionate, yet small, community of fans.

Unfortunately, I had to pare down the list, no Apple II, Amiga 500, TG-16, 3DO, etc.

Sorry, but know that the TG-16 has a special place in my personal collection.

Chris Melissinos

So, I think that we should read the GODDAMN FAQ because, apparently, this exhibit had constraints and they were not trying to be exhaustive or all-inclusive.

Of course, I still submitted a comment about the TG-16! :)

Other than the CD factor, Turbo is but an asterik in console history.

Not that that prevents me from enjoying the system, but it is what it is.

If the TG-16 is an asterisk (and I'm not arguing otherwise), then what was game.com?

Seriously. I had never heard of it until the internets enlightened me many moons ago.
