PC-FX, Saturn, PSX, 3DO, Jag, 32X, etc comparisons.

The designers of the PC-FX figured that quality fmv was better than real-time 3D. So here is a pretty fair comparison of what is pretty much the highest quality fmv for PC-FX and Saturn-

PC-FX fmv VS Saturn fmv -direct download

Something to take into consideration, is that the advertise trailer for TM:TAIV appears to suffer from the degradation of the edited original video. The clips which appear in the trailer look better in-game. But this is the best footage to compare two similarly themed games with. I don't have time to dig up back-up Saturn carts, looking for a save file at the end of TM:TAIV, just to record the one ending clip that might have been best suited for this comparison.

Also, Kakutoden's footage looks as though the source material was blurrier and it might have been shot on film while TM:TAIV might have shot straight to video or have been rendered on a computer first.

I used a brand new capture card and new editing software for the first time. It'll be a while before I figure out how to fine tune them. But this large video does retain the quality pretty well all things considered.

Both games were recorded from using S-Video.

Just a suggestion, you might want to add a lower-res version of that video as an option for folks with slower connections and/or slower computers. The resolution is so high on my computer, for example, I can't get the entire thing to fit on my screen not to mention playback is extremely jerky.

That's why the YouTube link is coming. I made some resized comparisons before and they worked for comparing various elements, but this is pretty much the only way to compare fmv quality across the internet.

I still have to figure out how to do custom video settings with my new capture card, but it's another Hauppauge device and it probably won't do mpeg2 in anything less than 720 x 480. I could've made it into a 1280 x 720(?) video, but some of the video would've been cropped if I didn't re-size the individual videos.

Here are the original separate videos if anyone would like to view them individually-

PC-FX fmv

Saturn fmv

None of the other formats I tried came close to the same quality.
