Spine Card and Cover Scans
« on: March 12, 2011, 02:41:22 AM »

In my PCE collection I only have around 20-25 games that are complete with Spine Cards all others are without :-(

Rather than me having to re-purchase most of my collection would there be interest in a collaborative project on this forum to scan and share the spine cards that we own with the goal of creating a complete scanned set?

Great idea! I'd be happy to add spinecards to my site if we can get a whole lot scanned.

I'm willing to scan mine. I mostly have common/cheap games at the moment, so I'll wait to see what others post first. Most of my games are back in the US, but now I have these spine cards:

GoTzenDiener
Ys IV
Far East of Eden Kabuki Den
The Legend of Xanadu
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water

OK I will make a start.

sunteam_paul what resolution would you prefer me to scan these in at?  I have been using 300dpi for most stuff.

Also can you let me know where to post/email the scans

If you print 'em you should put a "not official" disclaimer like sparky has done with his manual scans.

I've scanned most of my spine cards for gamefaqs http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/63311.html?type=10

If I have it, it'll be scanned and added to pcedaisakusen.... eventually.  I've fallen behind, but I should be back on the stick soon.

I would suggest scanning them at 300dpi. I can always resample down, I will probably drop them to 200dpi so they end up this quality:

If you get a lot done, zip them up and either upload them to megaupload or something, or send via www.yousendit.com (no registration/payment required on files under 100mb) to paul[at]pcengine.co.uk.

Wow, covers and registration cards as well! I just have to figure out how best to incorporate them in the site now (I could add another index as well as putting links on individual pages, but I'm concerned that I'm going to have too many links on the home page.)

I sent a single scan for Strider via mega upload. Let me know if it is satisfactory and I'll start sending the rest I have.

The resolution is fine, I just want to check the colours. Is the spine faded or is the NEC Avenue logo supposed to have no colour in it (and the Arcade CD-Rom strip at the top looks pale to me but that might be how it is)?

I'm considering having the registration cards as a list based on Company, rather than game - the two Naxat ones SuperPlay sent me were identical and I guess there are few, if any, game specific ones - unless someone knows differently?

One thing I noticed on your cover scans SuperPlay...do you have a 'descreen' option in your scanning software to minimize the pattern you get when scanning printed matter? I can smooth it out a bit in Photoshop if you don't.
