PCE Will not run on batteries.
« on: March 26, 2011, 10:29:32 AM »
Capacitors all changed. Works on adapter ok. I have checked everything, in line fuse ok, wiring ok, terminals ok
switch ok. Power to switch tests ok with multimeter. Switch mount ok, adapter mount ok. Fresh new batteries as well. What have I missed?
Is there an in line diode for the battery power?
Your expert knowledge would be appreciated!

There's the power switch which works obviously, but is there a switch down inside power adapter hole, you know so it knows if the adapter is plugged in or if you are running on batteries?  Maybe that is f'ed?

Maybe this thread will help. You may want to check that the circuit for the battery power is complete and unbroken.

You will get about 35 minutes of battery life out of a full charge of 6 Alkalines. An hour max.

I recommend an AC adapter.

Awesome guys thanks! Fixed it this morning, the adapter plate was bent flat! It was stuck on adapter mode. So I changed it out for a new one. You can actually use a Watara Supervision adapter socket, they are identical!

Thanks!  :P

I was thinking it was something like that, where it was thinking the adapter wasn't removed (was always plugged in).  Haven't ever had an Express, but have seen this issue on similar devices.

Nice fix!

There is this component on the board that of damaged will not allow batteries to work. I know this wasn't the case in your situation but putting it here for reference.
