Wanted: SCART cable for RGB-modded Duo-R
« on: April 03, 2011, 08:08:57 AM »
I recently modded my Duo-R for RGB, and now all I need is a SCART cable so I can actually use it. It needs to follow doujindance's RGB pinout and needs to have the RGB amp installed in the SCART plug, since all I did was wire the RGB lines straight to the DIN jack.

Isn't it the same cable as the Sega Megadrive I RBG Scart cable?  He mods standard 6 pin to the 8 pin Din output right?

It's not the same pinout. He has the extra 3 pins for RGB while those same pins on the Genesis/Mega Drive are for red, blue and composite sync.

Ah I see.  That makes more sense as to why you're having difficulty obtaining the cable  #-o
Thanks for helping me understand this whole thing a bit better, there's no SCART in Canada so it's a bit of an untouched area of knowledge for me.

This seller does custom SCART RGB cables and with a quick turn around apparently:

Maybe they'll be able to sort it out if you don't have any luck with other forum members.

Why would you not put the RGB amp inside the console?  I don't think you can fit the amp in the SCART plug.

I was running low on parts so I just simply wired up the RGB lines and that was it. Plus, I've seen a number of RGB amps out there and I'm not sure which one I should use. Hence why my system doesn't have an amp.

That's cool, I'm just saying that I don't think you can cram it into the SCART plug.  No amp I ever built would fit into one.  You could make one and put it in a box with inputs and outputs on the outside so that you would only ever have to build one of them (if you are going to play multiple consoles in RGB that need an amp).  Either that or open up the Duo and stick the amp in there.  The amp I use in my N64 is like this one, and the one in my NES is like this one.  They both work fine, but the first one is easier to build in my opinion.  I bought my Duo pre-modded (because I got tired of doing the work myself) so I have no idea what amp is in it.  Whatever Doujindance uses.

Here's one for sale with the amp built in for £20.00.  Granted it comes with parts you don't need but the cable has the amp built in.

I'm not sure if that uses doujindance's pinout or not, though. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it did!

You might want to just contact doujindance and see if he'll make you a cable with an amp built in.   When I bought my Duo-R from him I wanted both euro SCART and j-scart cables because I didn't know if I would be using an XRGB or not.   He made me an extra cable and charged me the cost of parts.

Just buy it and re-wire the DIN side to match the proper pinouts, then.

it should match, i tried one once and it was the same. You can let her know your pinout and she can make sure it is right. It is a pretty tight fit for everything to go in there though.
