Spriggan Mark 2 is an awesome game. I love the progression of the levels and the variety of them. They game isn't hard, but isn't specifically super easy either. But the harder modes are rewarding. Each mode has it's own ending (which might be something as minor as 1 or 2 more pics at the end credits). You have the beat the game on hard to find the real last boss, but that's more for story than anything else.
I love the strategy of the game too. You start off with a limited number of ammo for each weapon and it's up to you to figure out how you want to waste it through out the stage. I like the button employment of the sub/special weapons too. Since there's already auto fire, single tap (on -off- on again) works great for micro managing the sub weapon stock. Then when you need all out sub weapon auto along with normal weapon, you just flip up the turbo switch. Real PCE/Duo controllers are awesome
I'd discussion my love for the levels in more detail, but I don't want to spoil anything for you if you haven't gotten that far or beaten the game. Also, love the music in the game. The explosions are also great (love the randomness of how they explode as well as the style/look of the explosions - some of my favorite in the 16bit era). The game is quite unique IMO. While I like the first game, I love the this way more. Scrolls, great explosions, cool bosses and in game sprites (battle ships, mechs, pods, etc), perfect length. A trick if you have the voice intermission enable for the level, if you need to quick skip it - you can pause and go to item select screen, the back out. It'll convert the voiced intermission to button fastfoward voiceless mode. After having beat the game the first few times, I started leaving the voice over in level intermissions on. Just something else to experience once you've seen/experienced the meat of the game.
