Canadian TG16 games

How many TG16 games were officially released in Canada? And there a way to tell them apart, other than the new or duplicate manual that's in french? I was looking through my TG16 hucards and noticed my Dungeon Explorer had two manuals stuff in there. One in french with an NEC Canadian address on the back page, instead of the US address.

 So how many games were officially like this? Were the card board boxes different too?

I have a copy of Darkwing Duck with French manual that has a little UPC sticker over the normal UPC on the cardboard box.  I also have a sealed Cotten with a UPC sticker under the shrinkwrap that leads me to suspect there's a French manual inside because my other copy of Cotton has no such sticker.

FYI, earlier games seem to have included full French facsimiles of the original manual (I have one for Bloody Wolf).  Later games, like the 21 plastic-tray Turbochips, only included trimmed-down, 8-panel foldouts in black and white for French readers.

Later on, maybe just TTi onward, games released in Canada were no different than U.S. releases.

Up until that point, I think that these were the only games not released here-

Was that UPC sticker the one for Turbo points? Your opened copy might just not have one.

I don't remember getting any kind of french instructions with case-less HuCards, but I also would have purchased them all from Radio Shack, so that might have something to do with it.

Yes, the couple of caseless cards I bought new came with the small foldout instructions in French.

No, the actual barcode is covered by a sticker.  I'm not at home right now, but IIRC the sticker on my sealed Cotton is inside on the back insert, under the plastic case, and therefore could not have been removed without damaging the insert.  I think I also have some other hucard box (besides Darkwing) with a UPC sticker.  The stickers on my boxes are the same style as the one on Cotton and don't match on of my U.S. released games that I purchased new.

Besides Darkwing, I also have a fold-out for Bonk 3 hucard.  I'd be curious to see how they condensed OotG into 8 panels.

Oh hey, new Holy Grail for completist a-holes:  Magical Chase complete with French fold-out.  Probably four in existence.  Go fetch, bee-otch.

Other differences that haven't been noted....

The bottom flap on the Canadian cardboard boxes is all white and has a bunch of text that isn't there on the US games. IIRC, without digging out my boxes, on the US boxes the bottom flap is just black with no text.

Also, many of the Canadian boxes have the dialog on the back in both English and French rather than just English.

Yeah, my copy of legendary axe is a canadian copy, the back of the box has all of the text in both english and french.
no french manual though, but that probably just got lost somewhere

Being a canuckian i really do hate the french and english combos on manuals, boxes and what not. Nothing against my french brothers but it always looks like it was a last minute decision to put it in, like....

 "Hey Bill how is the French copy fitting in?".... "oh f@ck me, i forgot!!!!" <<slaps head>>

I've checked my little collection , here's what i've found:

Boxes:

Vigilante(used) : english/french on the box(Nec Canada) , bottom is white with english text.

Dead moon(new) : box all english (NEC USA) ,only a sticker on the seal "directives en français à l'interieur" wich is clearly canadian french.

Final zone 2 (new opened) (NEC Canada) english/french box , black bottom with english writings.

Bravoman (used or new,i don't remind) (NEC Canada) english/french box ,black bottom with english...

Pac land (new) (NEC Canada) white bottom...

French instructions:

Darkwing duck but US box.

Still a lot to be checked....

I think I have a copy of World Court Tennis with two manuals tucked in the case... I'll have to double check. Bought it brand new a few years back. Not sure if the second one is french or not, haven't touched the game since I first bought and opened it.

Whatever happend to that nice PCE French Book someone released this past decade?  Was it ever translated to English?

I think it was a Quebec law, but it was easier to apply it to the entire country instead of trying to keep Quebec separate.
