WTB: Gate of Thunder and Arcade Card
« on: June 03, 2011, 09:51:02 AM »
Since the only copy of the Gate of Thunder 3-in-1 on eBay has a Buy It Now of $100 right now, I want to put some feelers out to see if anyone is willing to sell me a copy at a reasonable price.

I would like to have the Gate of Thunder Manual. I don't need the Bonk manuals (if they're included, great). Or if you have a spare copy of the PC Engine version, I would be open to that as well.

The disc does not have to be mint, but as long as it isn't too chewed up, I'd be happy.

I'm also looking for an Arcade Card. Loose is fine.

Thanks.

Just be patient. A GoT will turn up for much much less. Don't go by what eBay has to offer on any one particular week. This is not a rare game at all. There is at least one copy for every Turbo Duo and Super System Card sold on the US since it was originally a pack-in.

BTW, right now on eBay there is a JP GoT for $45 BIN.

$100, hahaha. What the f*ck is this world coming to....

The economy is shit, and yet people seem to be buying up Turbo shit at record setting highs hand over fist.

I just realized...there is one GoT 4-in-1 for every Turbo Duo and Super System Card (at least) or rather the ratio was nearly 1-1 back in the day, since it was a "free" pack-in with every system/card.

That means that the whole "US stuff is rare so the price is high" thing doesn't even apply here since there was at least one copy of the GoT 4-in-1 manufactured for every American system capable of playing it. CDs get scratched and lost, but US Duos also get broken or die out so basically everyone looking for the US version of this game to complete a collection should have one unless someone is hoarding doubles and triples. It has to be one of the least rare US Super CDs, tied with the reprint of Ys I&II. It should be DIRT cheap like any pack-in-game.

WTF?

All of that is aside from the quality, which is tremendous. GoT is the best shooter on PCE, IMO.

I bought it off a list member not too long ago and it was even less than that.

Yeah, I'm just going to wait it out.

I did see a copy go for $26 (Without the Bonk manuals, which wouldn't bother me.) about 2 weeks ago, but I bought Lords of Thunder off the same seller instead. Probably should have just grabbed both.

There is one at a local game shop but they want $70 for it. . . not gonna happen.

I have a spare copy of Gate of Thunder. It has 1 manual and a custom made jewel case insert (since it didn't originally come with one). PM me if interested.

hmm the GoT 4 in 1 does have 4 amazing games on one single disc so maybe for some people they feel that's worth a high pricetag if not just for the sheer curiousity factor. Just like I have all 4 games from their individual japanese releases but if I see it at a reasonable price I wouldn't mind getting the 4 in 1 just to hear Bonk talk hehe

It only has one amazing game. Bomberman is great, but was totally superseded by Bomberman 93 and 94. Bonk is...well, regardless of what you think of Bonk (barely beats Karnonv, IMO) this is a super duper common and cheap game(s) in either region.

Its only high because people are high. A $100 BIN means nothing until someone actually buys it, until then its just a number someone made up.

I seriously question how high this one can really go. It seems like way too many people would already have it, and why would someone who already has it buy another one for a really high price? Even I have this game, and I only have six US releases!

Of course there is the possibility that there are so many people in the US playing on JP systems that there aren't enough 4-in-1s to go around...but why would anyone buy the 4-in-1 unless they are a "collector of US TG-16 games" (ie: a deranged spendaholic) in which case they only have US hardware?

Then of course there are the noobs...damn those noobs. Maybe they just see the game on eBay for $100, assume that's what it should cost, and buy it.

I am playing on a Japanese system. So that is a likely scenario. PC Engine Duo systems go for a lot less. For me, someone who is playing games and not just setting them on a shelf, it makes much more sense.

I would also say that I have probably overspent on a few things. . . nothing crazy, but nonetheless, I am probably guilty of that. . . a little.
